Last Rites for Leo Harris Held at Rockdale
Funeral services for Leo Harris justice of peace were held Sunday at Phillips and Luckey funeral chapel with Rev. James W. Askew of Round Rock and Rev. Frank Tulloch of the First Baptist church officiating. Burial was in IOOF cemetery with Masonic ritual. Harris died Saturday. a native of Troy Alabama he had lived in the county since 1918 and served as justice of peace in successive terms. Surviving are his wife, a sister Mrs. Roschelle Dewitt and many nieces and nephews.

Three Cameron Students Enroll At Southwest Texas State
Three students from Cameron Denson Provasek James Hawkins and Thelma Gandy enrolled for the first time this semester at Southwest Texas State College. Enrollment last week reached 1623 a spring record and 78 below the fall term peak. Officials expected Saturday turnout to raise the total further.

Hearing Postponed On Texas and New Orleans Rail Case

Fire badly damages Fred Reno home on 18th street
A Tuesday afternoon fire gutted the second story roof of Fred Reno’s home at 907 East 18th Street. Neighbors spotted the blaze and notified firefighters who arrived to find extensive damage to rooms and furniture with losses estimated in the thousands of dollars.

Joe Barber Last Rites In Pleasant Hill Community
Joe Barber of the Pleasant Hill community died Saturday after a long illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Pleasant Hill church conducted by Rev. J. A. Meliver. Burial followed in the family cemetery. Survived by his wife, a sister Mrs. H. E. Bryant of Thorndale, and a brother Albert Barber of Rockdale. He was 72, uncle of Judge Ed Gunn of Cameron, and brother of I. N. Barber, longtime Milam County district clerk. He died on the farm where he was burned. a life farmer and stockman.

Freight Cars Jump Tracks Near Rogers
Twenty four cars of a Santa Fe freight train southbound out of Temple derailed three miles south of Rogers at 3 20 a m. No injuries were reported. Fifteen cars remained upright while the rest piled into a heap. The cause was not yet known and repair crews worked to restore service, with a 4 a m Wednesday reopening goal.
