20000 Checks Mailed To First Return Filers
RL. Phinney, Internal Revenue District Director for the Austin District, says 20000 refund checks have been mailed to taxpayers who filed early 1959 returns with a refund due. Some early filers are told their refund checks will be delayed due to a pre refund audit, but their audits are already underway. He urges filing now with complete information including signatures and W-2 forms and warns against asking where refunds are, as replies slow the process.
