MOD Featuring Benefit Game Mothers March in Milam County

The March of Dimes drive in Milam County includes two events in the coming week a benefit basketball game at Yoe Gym Saturday and a Mothers March Monday night. Local chair Richard Moseley says the drive aims to raise 1000 dollars in the one hour event with Mrs Charlie Burke leading the Mothers March at Ben Milam School. The All American Red Heads will return to face Cameron men 8 p m Saturday with proceeds to the March of Dimes and referees include J R Young and Earl Curtis.

Minstrel Show Sets Two-Night Run At Yoe High

Practice sessions for the Lions Minstrel have moved to Yoe High Auditorium for a February 25 and 26 two night show. Endmen chorus and specialty numbers work out rough spots for final rehearsals. First minstrel in Cameron since 1956 is expected to draw capacity crowds both nights with tickets on sale.

Vogelsang Files For School Board

F. W. Vogelsang, incumbent, filed for re-election to the Cameron school board in the April 2 election. Dana Monroe, acting board president, had filed for re-election last week. O. A. White had withdrawn from an unexpired term after TEA rulings. The board awaits superintendent selection.

Baptists Plan New $150000 Church in Cameron

First Baptist Church Cameron outlines final plans with architect Frank C Dill for a two floor colonial style church to replace the old sanctuary this spring. The building to seat 459 with future balcony for 100 and educational spaces for 30. $83504.24 has been pledged or donated. Richard Moseley chairs the building committee.

Census To Start April 1 In Milam County Enlists Enumerators

The 1960 population and housing census begins April 1 in Milam County with 26 enumerators total. Six will work in Cameron, four in Rockdale, one in Thorndale, and the rest in rural areas. Applicants may contact Perry in Buckholts or call Rockdale HI 6 5541 for civil service exams after requests are received. Residents will receive information sheets by mail and are urged to complete them before or during visits.

Lott Man Injured In Horse Car Collision

W A Burnett of Lott, 33, sustained a broken collarbone and severe scalp laceration in a horse auto crash Sunday at 6 45 p m. He was taken to a local hospital as George A Kahlig of Burlington, driving a 1952 Ford, and about six passengers escaped injury. The horse was destroyed and car damage was about 200 dollars. Burnett was among riders when the mount bolted and entered Kahlig’s path on Eighth Street. Burnett was still recovering from sedation Wednesday.

Cameron City Council Sets April 5 Election

The Cameron city council approves a April 5 election date and accepts the resignation of Mondrik effective March 1. The panel reviews street work plans on Sixth Street and West Main and North Crockett, discusses extending airport facilities, and funds purchases for insecticide spray and Little League Park lighting.

Chamber Elects 8 New Directors

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce elected eight new directors during the past week according to Manager Jack DuBois. New directors are A. W. McCullin Morris Eplen Ed Schiller Jr Don Humble Gus Elley Henry Liebman Dick Moseley and Earl Curtis. The new directors will be introduced at the annual Chamber banquet in March. State Atty Gen Will Wilson will speak at the banquet March 8.
