The language mocks greed and folly while implying court scrutiny and bond requirements.
Milam County Texas Exes will hear Richard D. Blair assistant director of the Texas Longhorn band Wednesday at an annual alumni banquet at the Cameron Country Club. The group will gather at 7 30 p m with Hilliard Thomas presiding. Similar alumni events will be held March 2 around the state on Texas Independence Day.
Milam County Health Unit officials report about 100 farmers and ranchers picked up poisoned bait for an anti rabies effort. A U S Fish and Game official distributed a ground meat and strychnine mix under county provisions to curb predators spreading rabies. Elmer Rinn, 45, of Sharp Community, who was bitten by a rabid cat, is receiving anti rabies shots. Cattle deaths tied to rabies in Central Texas Milam area prompt a four county epidemic declaration. Bait remains lethal for 10 days and pets should be penned for two weeks. A second distribution day will be scheduled if needed. The program aims to reduce predators not destroy them.
The March of Dimes Mothers March raised about $345 Monday night as a near-capacity Cameron crowd watched the Cameron Independent men defeat the All-American Red Heads 67 to 58 on Saturday.
A 30 member Lions Club minstrel cast performs at Yee High School Auditorium tonight and Friday at 7 30 PM drawing expected crowds and showcasing local talent.
Yoe High School hosts its third annual science fair in the school gym on March 1 and 2. Exhibits open to the public Tuesday 6 to 9 pm and Wednesday 8 am to 2 45 pm with research and technical divisions. Judging begins 5 30 pm Tuesday and awards 7 30 to 8 pm. Local winners advance to the Austin Science Fair March 11 12.
A Cameron committee of Yee High Ada Henderson and Ben Milam teachers plans a “School Week” from February 28 to March 4. Max McClaren chairs a team including McClaren and staff from Yoe High and Ada Henderson. Posters invite residents and local clubs to participate and attend the science fair Tuesday and Wednesday.
Cold weather slowed work on the Milam County courthouse as Penner and Chaney crews halted sandblasting the north side. The project, started over the weekend, has 30 working days to finish including blasting the stone exterior caulking seams and sealing with weatherproofing solution. Exterior woodwork will be repainted under a separate contract.
City and Cameron School Board elections show no new filings. For mayor, incumbent Russell Wilson and Coleman Duncum seek the post. Council seats list Roy Griffith Sam Houston FE Wied John A Smith and Homer Allen. Filing deadlines March 5 city and March 2 school board. Election dates April 5 city and April 2 school board.
The Red Cross bloodmobile will visit Cameron on Friday from noon to 6 p.m. at the Methodist Fellowship Hall. Seventy pints are the area quota due to high demand from sickness and accidents. Local organizers include Richard W. Moseley as blood chairman with Mrs. F. E. Jackson Dr. Clifford Swift and Dr. S. H. Richardson coordinating operations and publicity.
A. R. Graver executive director of the Texas Farm Bureau urged Milam members to focus on voting in this election to aid agriculture. He spoke at the annual Farm Bureau celebration and talent show at the First Methodist Fellowship Hall before about 400 attendees.
The Cameron City Council voted unanimously to start workmen's compensation coverage for city employees effective March 1. The $1,938.75 yearly premium funds come from departmental budgets for a $75,000 payroll. Officials discussed future water resources with the Brazos River Authority and rejected raising the Little River dam, favoring channel dredging instead. Delinquent taxes of about $24,000 will be pursued by City Attorney Charles C. Smith Jr. through Camp Insurance Agency issued coverage.
Cameron School Board selects Dr. Earl H. Knebel of Texas A and M as new superintendent on a three year contract starting July 1. He will relocate in June and previously held roles at A and M and Oklahoma State University.

A Northeast wind drove a cold front across Texas with the worst storm of the year. Temperatures dipped to 25 Wednesday morning as Milam County and the region faced a heavy freeze. Rainfall measured .73 inch Saturday and .29 inch Tuesday with temperatures ranging from the mid teens to the mid sixties across the state.
Growers and Chamber of Commerce sponsors will meet at 4 p m Friday at Courthouse Square to receive chicks for growing. About 85 Milam County growers will collect chicks and return in six weeks to enter their top five birds in the Cameron Poultry Show.
