Rockdale Man Recovers After Neck Wound Incident

A Rockdale man, Co. L. Brown, 52, is hospitalized after an attempted self-inflicted neck wound in Milam County Jail. Sheriff Carl Black said Brown, held on pending charges, was rushed to St. Edward's Hospital early Wednesday where doctors treated the injury.

Fires Destroy Milano Co op Shed and Nearby Homes

Fire crews from Cameron and Rockdale battled a blaze that wiped out the Milano Co op tomato shed early Monday after winds and water shortages hampered efforts. A week earlier, the home of Mrs. Marvin L. Kirk burned, and a sawdust pile behind Walled Lake Door Co. ignited Tuesday. no injuries or damage reports were listed.

No New Filings In City As Elections Loom

City and Cameron School Board elections show few new candidates. Coleman Duncum filed for mayor, Dana Monroe seeks re election to the Cameron School Board. Forty two coaches applied for the head coach post as applicants come from Texas and four other states. The city race includes the mayor and two council seats plus two unexpired terms. The school board terms held by Vogelsang and Monroe are up. The election date is April 2 for the school board and April 5 for the city. C A White withdrew from the one year term after TEA ruling.

Cameron City Accounts 301 000 Revealed by Mayor

Cameron mayor Bassel Wilson reported city finances show 301 096.28 in Cameron banks with 187 765.20 on time deposit at 3 percent. About 119 331.08 funds are pledged for bond retirement or budgeted for 1959 60. General operating fund holds 56 606.43 with about 30 000 on time deposit.

Red Heads Back For MOD Benefit In Cameron

The All-American Red Heads will meet a Cameron men’s team at Yoe Gym on February 20 for the March of Dimes benefit. Proceeds from the bucket brigade and the game support the Milam County MOD drive.

New Taxi Company To Operate Here

Elmo Anderson of Waco will start a new taxi business in Cameron by week’s start. He and his son Bill move to Cameron this week to open Green Ball Taxi at the corner of Houston and Gillis Streets, near the former Blue Diamond Gas Station, with two vehicles in 24 hour operation and a FCC two way radio permit pending.

Chamber of Commerce forecasts near 100 entrants in broiler contest

Junior Broiler Contest set for April 30 with about 100 entries and 40 FFA participants. Les Byrd, poultry committee chair, says sponsors will gather February 26 at Courthouse Square for chick presentations and that contestants will raise five show birds from 50 chicks for judging by recognized broiler judges with cash prizes and ribbons.

General Crude Plans New Wildcat Well South of Milano

General Crude Oil Co of Houston to drill a new deep wildcat about six miles south of Milano near the Burleson County line on a 54 acre Coffield tract. The No. 2 Perry was drilled to 8621 feet and may be tested again around 6000-6100 feet after oil and gas shows in Edwards lime.

Chester Simons vice president says Cameron Little League still needs 500 to complete the ballpark on Milam Institute Grounds with bleachers lights and a backstop funded by local donations. Dust Storm Blows Through Milam County Areas

A severe dust storm swept Cameron Milam County and neighboring areas with winds up to 60 mph. Temperatures soared to mid 80s Tuesday afternoon before dark as dust reduced sunlight and readings fell state wide. Fire crews tackled a sawdust blaze behind Walled Lake Door Co amid the gusty conditions.

Milam Democrats Set Filing Fee After Clark Withdraws

Pat Clark of Milam-Robertson Counties withdraws from the race for state representative. Milam Democratic chair Max McClaren says filing fee is 3 percent of the four year salary to cover primary costs. 30 candidates are on the books, 11 offices uncontested. Primary May 7 with fee deadline February 13 and possible refunds after primaries.
