Cameron Invited to Visit Austin Show February 19
Cameron residents will receive an official invitation to visit Austin and the Austin Livestock Show on Friday February 19. The invitation is issued by Henry Liebman chairing the Cameron Chamber of Commerce PR Committee. The Austin Optimist Club sponsors the trip with 18 counties and 44 towns included for goodwill stops. The caravan arrives Cameron at 11 40 a m with the Jesse James band providing music and Dave Smith the Austin radio announcer acting as master of ceremonies.

Six Democrats File for Milam County Primary Ballot
By February 12 six candidates had filed to appear on the Milam County Democratic primary ballot for July and August races. R. H. McCasland filed for Commissioner Precinct 4, a Cavilla area farmer. Herman Yazek seeks reelection to State Representative District 56. Sheriff Carl Black and County Judge Charles Smith also filed for reelection. J. L. Self runs for Commissioner Precinct 4 against McCasland. L. N. McDonald seeks reelection as Justice of the Peace Precinct 5. Walter White seeks another term as County Tax Collector and Assessor. White previously served as Milam County sheriff. A candidate has until Monday May 3 to file.

Statewide rainfall averaged 55 percent of normal in January per the Texas Board of Water Engineers. The report notes 1 inch statewide with 12 percent in the Lubbock area and 101 percent in North Texas. Runoff rose in Red Sabine Neches and Trinity basins while Brazos Colorado Guadalupe Nueces and Pecos showed deficient flows. Reservoir storage was mostly unchanged. local area received 1.51 inches.

Ruben Caywood 50 of Rockdale died when Chief Fred A. Trammell’s 1953 Mercury overturned during a pursuit with two Milam County youths. Trammell survived and aided at the scene. a hearing was postponed until his recovery. Survivors include Caywood’s mother and several siblings.

January Health Unit Report Details Immunizations and Tests
The January report notes immunizations started in Rockdale and Thorndale schools, with completion targeted for early February. Mrs Antonio Polzer Dies at 83 Final Rites Held
Mrs Antonio Polzer 83 died at her Cameron home Friday night after a months illness. Funeral services were held February 15 at St Monica Church with Rev George Duda officiating. Burial in St Monica Cemetery followed a rosary vigil at Marek Burns Funeral Home. Survived by five sons three daughters 15 grandchildren one great grandchild and four sisters. Preceded by husband in 1949. Active pallbearers were her grandsons.

Austin Man Attempts Death By Own Action
Donald Dayton Ray, 27, of 6942 Ryne Drive, Austin, shot himself with a 32 caliber pistol at about 10:20 p m Monday. He was taken to Newton Memorial Hospital and operated on. The bullet passed through his left side, likely piercing his left lung, after an argument with his wife. Milam County Sheriff Carl Black investigated. Ray was reported in improved condition.
