Cameron gains a Glasspar warehouse operation with 29 000 square feet to store boats. Willis White of Cameron Compress oversees. 26 boats already in stock as Glasspar chooses Cameron for strategic location serving South Texas Gulf Coast and Southern Louisiana.
Cameron unit Company C of the 49th Division 3rd Med Patton Tank Battalion joins more than 20 000 Texas Guardsmen in Operation Muster a state practice alert set for Feb 18 26. Captain J T Terry says the goal is to show mobilization capability test readiness and readiness to respond to state or national calls.
Harvey S. Spiller 25 a book keeper at Citizens National Bank died from auto injuries after a one car crash on US 910 between Mays Field and Branchville about 11:30 p.m. February 8. He was buried Friday at Hearne Cemetery with army burial rites following funeral services at First Baptist Hearne. Surviving sister Mary Katherine Briggs of Calvert. Spiller was a reserve officer in Bryan and lieutenant in the Army Reserve. An unidentified caller alerted State Patrol and an ambulance.
Dr. Robert M. Titsworth spoke to Cameron Lions Club about a disease-free birth process for pigs. He described a forthcoming plant and said it would produce 48 disease-free pigs monthly and ensure their growth for the first 30 days.
Cameron Chamber of Commerce names incoming president Richard Williams and first vice president E O Schiller Jr for 1961 62 with install at the March 16 banquet. Second vice president is O B Harden and new directors include Alvin Nolte John Henderson Jr Earl Knebel Leo Fuchs B F Grimes Hilliard Thomas and Drayton McLane. Ed Stark to speak at the annual dinner and Jack DuBois is re elected chamber manager. AUSTIN An official State Health Department citation was awarded to Alvin Hefft Cameron city water plant superintendent for proficiency in plant management. The certificates of competency are signed by health authorities and the Texas Water and Sewage Works Association.
Friday program at All Saints Episcopal Church begins at 3 p m under the theme Forward through the Ages. Council of Church Women sponsor with leaders from Methodist Presbyterian Christian and Episcopal churches. Mayor Coleman Duncum proclaims Friday as World Day of Prayer in Cameron.
Construction at Cameron sites resumed after rains. Workers began outside brickwork on the First Baptist Church colonial sanctuary. The colonial steeple framework is partially erected. Brickwork on Newton Memorial Hospital exterior nears completion with the entrance overhead structure set. Additional office space at Fuchs Ideal Hatchery and a new partition in the egg processing room are noted.
Cameron Chamber of Commerce sponsors expect about 85 entries for the annual Junior Broiler Contest on April 29. Bill Burns said 85 FFA and 4-H entrants will meet February 24 at 4 p.m. The event, paired with a Cameron Mall at Courthouse Square, includes a banquet and cash prizes for top show chickens judged on standard broiler points.
Cameron residents and library board members will hear William K Peace acting state librarian outline Cameron area needs plans and costs. The session at Citizens National Meeting Room at 7 30 pm features talks on financing and revenue ideas for a new library building.
Mrs. R L Batte Sr 73 died at her daughter's Cameron home after months of illness. Funeral Wednesday at Cameron First Methodist Church with Rev Jewel Strong. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. She helped raise about 30 children at The Sycamores and edited poetry books and Milam County history. Survived by two daughters Miss Mary Belle Batte and Mrs Joe Hickman a son Ernest Batte a stepson R L Batte Jr a sitter Mrs Hugh Conway two brothers Dwight McAnally and Isaac McAnally and a granddaughter Barbara Jo Hickman. Pallbearers listed.
The Texas Farm Bureau sponsors an automobile safety demonstration at five county schools next week in cooperation with the Milam Farm Bureau. Joe Smetana will present a two part program including a movie Death on the Highway and live demonstrations on reaction time and braking distances at Thorndale Sharp Buckholts Cameron Yee Milano.
