Sharp trustees visit Cameron to review transfer plans

Five Sharp School District trustees toured Yee Campus with Cameron School Board officials on Monday night to discuss transfer of Sharp students next fall. Cameron trustees and Supt Earle Knebel, Principal Gerald Underwood and Supervisor Charles Ziegler led the tour and facilities review.

Milam County Broiler Show Sees 50 Chicks Entered Friday

Milam County FFA and 4-H members will receive 50 baby chicks each at 4 p.m. Friday as the first stage of the annual Milam County Broiler Show. Five of the 50 will advance to the April contest, with E D Parnell of Texas A&M judging. A banquet follows at First Methodist Church with Johnnie Watkins as keynote speaker.

Cameron Guard Unit Mobilizes in State Alert

Cameron's Company C, 3rd Medium Tank Battalion answers a state alert last Saturday with 85 percent turnout. S Sgt Joe Vybiral received notice at 1 05 p m and activated the mobilization plan. The unit set up communications and transport, issued gear as men arrived from across Central Texas, then sealed a simulated atomic blast area in hours two and three before returning to base at four and discharging at five. Captain J T Terry called the effort very successful.

YHS Juniors Present Tattletale Play Tuesday Night

Yoe High School junior class will present the three act comedy Tattletale at 8 p m Tuesday in the Yee High School auditorium. Mack Case Reset For March 20

A case charging Obbie Mack of Rockdale with assault with intent to murder was reset to March 20 per County Attorney Jack Prescott. Mack was indicted in a Rockdale shooting that killed his brother. Prescott also noted Jack Morris of Cameron received a two year probated sentence after a guilty plea to the same charge.

Cameron Lions Hear Conservation Talk At Monday Meeting

Wayne Mann of the Cameron Soil Conservation Service and Anton Moran a Fort Worth Press award winner spoke at Cameron Lions Monday. Moran runs a 400 acre diversified farm using modern conservation methods with cotton and grain yields over twice the county average.

State Librarian Outlines Cameron Library Building Plan

Acting state librarian William K. Peace outlined a Taylor style library project for Cameron, noting Taylor's $40,000 build and 2,150 square foot facility with 20,000 volumes. He cited growth plans for 20 years, screening Cameron’s 2,771 volumes, and urged local boosters to pursue a new building with state library support.

Scout-O-Rama outlines March 11 demonstrations at Cameron armory

The Scout-O-Rama committee led by Rev. Alfred Kallus plans a day of scouting demonstrations at the Cameron National Guard Armory on March 11. Cub train display, Boy Scout Court of Honor, and Explorer Post 85 concession booth are arranged with tickets selling at 50 cents. Proceeds go to Heart O' Texas Council camp maintenance at Camp Talihaya near Belton.

Sign Planned At New Site For Cameron Library

Cameron library officials announce a large sign will mark the new E Fourth Street site. A planning commission of about 25 Cameron civic and community groups is being formed to guide library improvements as the board reviews building needs and compares to Taylor's recently completed $30 000 2 150 square foot project.

Winners Named In Men's Events At Local Lanes

The Cameron Men’s Bowling Association tournament crowned champions on weekend matches. Doe Speer led all events with 1595 scratch totals. Singles winner Jim Edwards posted 697 under Handicap with doubles going to Jimmy McGoldrick and Harlan Mees at 1272. Other top singles included Hajovsky 690, McGoldrick 647, and Howell 631. Doubles featured Edward Matula and Monroe Bayer 1271, Donice and Morris 1264, Chaney and Boyer 1259, and Howell with Bierds 1253. Morris bowled a 256 game the highlight, the highest ABC game at the new lanes.

Milam County Resolution Seeks Federal Help Over Belton Reservoir Floods

Milam County Commissioners adopt a resolution urging federal aid to protect bottomland farms from water released from Belton Reservoir. The text asks Texas congressional members and Vice President Lyndon Johnson to urge the U S Army Corps of Engineers to release less water, citing repeated flooding of Little River bottom land despite no state flood level. Fashion Benefit Nets Over 100 In Milam County

A Cameron fashion show two weeks prior raised more than 100 for the Milam County March of Dimes annual drive.
