Life Terr ier Escapes Jail in Milam County
Alfred Prichard, a man described as a life prisoner under habitual criminal statutes, escaped from Milam County jail after midnight Wednesday. He loosened a bar with a bed steel bar, dug through the north wall, and slid to the ground using bed clothing as a rope, aided by a freshly plastered wall to conceal the work. Prisoners noted constant toilet flushing to muffle noise during the escape. Prichard, once raised in Burleson County, had previously escaped other jails including McCulloch County where he seized keys, locked the sheriff in, and took the sheriff’s pistol and ear.
