Terrell urges Texas equalization board for tax relief
State Comptroller Henry B. Terrell told county leaders Friday that if Texas rendered all property at 50 percent of true value the tax rolls would rise to about five billion dollars and ad valorem rates could fall below 20 cents from 30 cents. He cited widespread valuation discrepancies between federal and state reports, including cattle and sheep valuations, urging creation of a State Board of Equalization and criticizing a pending tax inequality investigation as wasteful.
