Last Saturday night between midnight and 1 a.m. a Negro burglar entered the J. B. Newton & Sons store and the J. C. Beard store, stealing goods and a small amount of money. Deputy W. E. Peel followed sightings to Rockdale but the suspect escaped. Police note a possible connection to similar break ins at Gause the night before.

State Convicts Leased by Governor in Texas Experiment
Governor Colquitt signs an agreement with T. S. Sikes and R. G. Christian to employ fifty convicts on public roads without guards or chains. Convicts from Lindale will be paid 15 a month, with 7.50 to the penitentiary fund and 7.50 to the convict’s individual account.

Villa Promises Industrial Revival in Chihuahua Mines
Pancho Villa announced a general industrial revival in Chihuahua with foreign owned mines reopening. J B Littlejohn Dies Unexpectedly Fort Worth Pioneer
Capt. Joseph B. Littlejohn a Fort Worth pioneer died at his home 1605 South Jennings Ave. He was born September 24 1841 in Fayette County Tennessee and served in the Confederate Army from 1861 until the war's end. Survived by son R G Littlejohn and daughter Margaret Littlejohn.

Hutchinson Kansas February 5 An escaped convict from Texas who used an assumed name for twenty one years and has served time in three states admitted his past to a crowd of 2000 at a gospel revival. He surrendered to Texas authorities after meeting Governor Colquitt and expects a pardon once the Texas board of pardons acts. Burton’s real name is believed to be A A Griffin.

Mrs. Hattie Williams aged about 50 was found dead in her Waco Texas home with chloroform fumes on her face. A note left behind spoke of despondency and burial plans, and G H Hodge the president of the local employment and renting association reported her recent divorce and alleged estrangement from her husband.
