Decline in Wheat Carryover Noted in 1964 and 1985 Outlook
The report from Texas A M University economist John G McHaney notes a third consecutive decline in wheat carryover as of July 1 1964 due to diversion programs and high exports. The 1985 carryover is expected near 901 million bushels, roughly matching 1964. Domestic use for 1964 65 is about 615 million bushels, with feed use driving the rise, while 675 million bushels of exports and flour are projected for 1964 65, below the record 760 million in 1963 64 but above average. Global prospects show Europe and the Soviet Union improving, with a record world wheat crop and increased U S competition. Prices to farmers for 1964 65 are expected near the national average loan rate of 1 0 per bushel, rising to 1 25 for the 1965 crop.
