Absentees Hit 15.37 Percent in Cameron District
Cameron Independent School District absentee rate rose to 15.37 percent on Tuesday, with 235 absences blamed on illnesses and weather. By Wednesday the rate fell to 9.15 percent with 140 students recorded absent. St Anthony Catholic School Cameron reports very small absentee levels thus far.

Schigut's Begins Remodeling Project
Cameron dry goods merchant John Schigut announced this week that remodeling starts on the former Exchange Furniture building to house Schigut's Dept Store. The 3700-square main floor will gain glass front fixtures lighting and ceiling with mezzanine offices. Balhorn 66 Succumbs. Rites Held At St Monica Cameron
W. W. Balhorn 66 died Thursday in a Temple hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at St. Monica's Catholic Church Cameron with Rev. John Geiser and Rev. Paul McCallum officiating. Burial followed at St. Monica's Cemetery. He was a retired Southern Pacific Railroad employee born in Moulton and lived in Cameron 46 years. Survivors include his wife three sons a sister and seven grandchildren.

Little River Floods Second Time in 1965
Milam County recorded the heaviest rainfall in the state with 2.58 inches in Little River causing the river to go out of its banks for the second time this year. Cameron saw 2.26 inches, February total 4.41, and January 5.98 inches tops records back to 1946. Milam County Agent J. D. Moore said no damage was anticipated and a soil conditioning effect was noted.

Three City Accidents Cause Vehicle Damage No Injuries
Three accidents were reported in the city last week causing extensive vehicle damage but no injuries. At 4:15 p.m. Friday Marcus Swain Howard struck Henry J. Schattle on Butte and Nolan streets, about $1,500 damage to a 1965 Chevrolet and $400 to a 1953 Packard. Saturday 8 p.m. a head on collision at 4th and Travis caused minor damage to a 192 Chevrolet and a 1959 Mercury. Sunday 10:20 p.m. Lee Elliston Thompson lost control on N Travis and hit a light pole near the Methodist Church, about $450 damage. Chief Elvin Hoskins noted no injuries.
