New faces are to be found in the personnel of the city government for the next fiscal year. W. O. Triggs is the only alderman to hold over for another term but will have to run again next February. William R. Rogers and Logan Green are elected for one year and will have to run again next February. Ray Robinson did not stand for re election as city marshal. Vince Lucas was defeated, having been city marshal for two years. B. Slocomb brings fresh leadership as deputy sheriff. J. C. Joseph and J. B. White are experienced aldermen. Judd G. Davis was unopposed for Mayor and Paul Webb for city attorney. New officers are sworn in in April when the fiscal year begins. Sam Hefley is the only new Democratic executive committee member, succeeding Dr. James Watson.
The Davilla 4H club met on February 4 1926 with about seventeen members. Two members were auditioned and welcomed. They discussed Home Improvement and planned to continue with enthusiasm, believing in future success. Refreshments were served. Reporter.
Voters chose a direct government slate for two years with majorities across most races. In the aldermen contest F. E. Jackson and J. B. White split by 74 votes, while Dan Tyson edged Dan Gunn by over 400 and B. Slocomb beat Lucas by nearly 300 for marshal. R. D. Brown defeated Theresa Jensen by 267 for treasurer. electees include Judd G. Davis mayor J B White J C Joseph Wm Rogers Logan Green and W O Triggs aldermen Paul Webb city attorney R D Brown secretary and treasurer Dan Tyson assessor and collector B Slocomb city marshal. Election turnout 1166 voters. Klan influence seen as no longer decisive.
Slocomb, city marshal elect, will inaugurate a new service in April and secure a downtown office available at all times. The city has no court space aside from the fire station, and since buying a new truck no room remains. Slocomb has been ill but is now at the sheriff Blaylock's office as deputy.
The new City Marshal thanks voters for the large majority won last Tuesday and expresses gratitude to supporters who aided during illness. He pledges impartial law enforcement and faithful public service in the office.
The Cameron Furniture Company plans a modern funeral home with chapel and display spaces. It will span its main building and the across street structure totaling about 5000 feet of space. Motor equipment orders are expected to arrive by March 1.
Temple florist T. W. Reed plans to move to Cameron to establish a greenhouse and flower service. He leased the E. Eggert property and will begin building next week, with S. M. Burns assisting to attract the new business to Cameron.
Ada Henderson faculty clashed in a brutal pickup basketball scramble with passing and dust flying. The Yoemen edged Yarrellton 16 taps to claim Milam county championship while players and coaches praised eligibility and spirit.
Thomas A. Edison unveils a 12 inch phonograph record that runs for 22 minutes. The New Cameron Drug Company has obtained samples and will demonstrate them to Edison owners.
John A. Lee a local oil operator who had pneumonia and was critically ill for weeks shows improvement. Mrs. Lee and their daughter also ill but recovering. Friends had feared for his life as his condition worsened, yet doctors now believe he will recover.
John Williams, negro farm demonstration agent, lists Milam County entrants for the pore cotton on fewer acres contest. Farmers named include Ben Black of Rockdale Rt 3, Will White of Minerva, Fred Lampkins of Minerva, E. L. Green of Milano Rt 2, and Elias Baily of Milano Rt 1.
County auditor Giles L. Avriett had the third finger of his left hand amputated above the first joint after a week failed healing from an automobile crash February 3. The operation Sunday left his hand impractical for use, while his wife and Mrs Lola Hearrell, also in the car, were uninjured.
Miss Leslie Campbell died about three o'clock Thursday afternoon from heart trouble. She had lived in Cameron for many years and was one of Capt. A. G. Campbell’s four daughters. Born in Alabama, she came to Texas as a child and lived near Yarrel ton. She left a large circle of friends and relatives, with nieces and nephews in Cameron.
Samuel Clark Cobb born January 28 1873 near Branchville Milam County Texas died February 7 1926 in Hamilton Texas at 3 46 pm survived by three daughters two children from second marriage and siblings with funeral held in Cameron and interment at Baptist church grounds mar low and Cameron friends attended a large crowd gathered for the services and pallbearers named.
Judge W W Chambers long known as the first voter in local elections was edged from the No 1 position as Van Tyson cast the first ballot Tuesday. Chambers, ill, arrived at 3 30 PM and voted from an automobile as friends note his improving condition and plans to celebrate soon.
