Milam County Poll Tax Receipts Lag 1923 Figures

1926 poll tax payments in Milam County fall about 1000 below 1923 levels. For 1925 payments reached 7702 while 1923 figures were 8514. Cameron city reports over 1400 poll taxes paid, the highest in its history.

Sub Station Under Way For Texas Public Utilities

Jno C Young local manager says a car load of wire arrived this week and substantial work has been done on the new sub station. The company expects to extend high power lines into Cameron by June and dismantle the former plant now in use from Cameron Water Power and Light. New rates are anticipated once lines reach the city.

Revenue Agent to Visit Cameron for Tax Return Help

Mrs. Bessie Hefley announces that on March 1st and 2nd an Internal Revenue Department agent will be in Cameron at the District Court room to assist residents in preparing income tax returns. The visit aims to help taxpayers compile their forms and answer questions.

County Trustees Meet February 24 to Discuss School Laws

Milam County trustees will gather in the District Court Room on Wednesday February 24 1926 at ten o clock a m. W A Morrison chairman will preside and discuss Texas School Laws from the Thirty Ninth Legislature. John A Lee Obituary Prominent Oil Promoter Dies

John A Lee a Cameron oil promoter died of pneumonia at Cameron sanitarium. Survived by his wife and young daughter Anita. A Polish civil and mining engineer who worked worldwide, he lived in several US states and served as a Mason and Royal Arch Mason. Funeral held at Cameron Methodist Church with Masonic burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Legion plans trip to Paris for September 1927 meeting

Ex servicemen plotting the 1927 Paris annual Legion meeting may save for travel. Finance officer J C Tucker will arrange passports and details, with about 13 dollars monthly enough to fund the trip. Members will get full information at the next meeting on Tuesday night March 2.

Cameron Brewery Raided by Sheriff's Party

A small Cameron brewery was raided Saturday by Sheriff L. L. Blaylock aided by Constable Chas. Sons and City Marshal Ray Robinson. E Rodriguez, a Mexican, is jailed awaiting examination. The raid yielded a bottling capping machine, 99 beer bottles, half gallon of whiskey, and 300 empty bottles. The sheriff has conducted many liquor raids recently in the war on house traffic.

The Knights of Columbus staged a benefit entertainment titled Diamonds and Hearts at their hall drawing about 300 attendees.
