Chas Price Joins Cameron Furniture Co Funeral Department

Chas W Price of the Price and Oh undertaking firm will head the new funeral department at Cameron Furniture Company. The firm has ordered a complete Henne motor equipment line from Freeport Illinois, including a funeral coach and pallbearers wagon. James Coleman will manage the department and has moved Rockdale stock to Cameron.

J Bradshaw Former Bank President Dies in Florida

John Bradshaw former president of the First National Bank and brother in law of the late John M Hefley died recently at his home in San Augustine Florida News of his death reached Cameron last week in a letter to relatives here He will be remembered by many friends here.

School Transfer Case Now Before High Court

The Texas Supreme Court will hear a transfer fee case from Cameron County soon. The case, described as statewide, concerns independent districts charging transfer fees beyond state appropriations. Representing the school board were B. P. Atkinson, L. Kidd, and E. A. Wallace, with Bryan and Waco officials in attendance. Don Slocomb and others appeared for appellants.

Giles L. Avriett Injured In Auto Crash

Giles L. Avriett and Mrs. Lola Hearrell escaped injury when their sedan was struck by a truck and overturned near the Tiff Moore residence Sunday night. Avriett suffered a broken left hand, a deep hand cut, and a wrist bruise, and was hospitalized until Monday.

First Fine Imposed For Killing Fox In Milam County

On January 1926 F T Machaka pleaded guilty in Justice Court to killing and possessing a grey fox pelt and was fined 10 dollars and court costs. It is Milam County's first conviction under the new game law banning wild foxes and pelts for ten years. Deputy wardens Love Moore and Chas Brown made the arrest and pledged strict enforcement of all game laws.

In a letter to the Herald Bob Daugherty reports the Wichita Falls grand jury adjourned after three weeks, calling 249 people and returning 110 true bills while finding no indictment against him regarding the death of a woman. He thanks the paper for publishing these facts.

Santa Fe Fire Department Receives $100 Thanks Letter

A letter of thanks and a $100 check were sent to Santa Fe Fire Chief Monta Thomas and Mayor Davis after the January 27 fire. The note, from T. M. Hull, praised the department for saving Cameron freight depot and equipment and recommended the payment be forwarded to Thomas.

Burleson County Man Seeks Representative Seat

A Burleson County cattleman J R Lyon announces his bid for representative for Lee Milam and Burleson counties. He proposes amending the suspended sentence law restricting it to under twenty one, ending life sentences without death, reducing the house to about one hundred members, limiting subpoenas, and cutting government costs to ease tax burdens. Lyon stresses his local ties and readiness to meet voters.

Milam County Basketball Tournament Set At Lawless Field

Strong teams from Buckholts Sharpe and Yarrelton enter the Milam County Tournament at Lawless Field Friday and Saturday. Cameron and Rockdale reached semis last year with Cameron winning the county title. Lynton Boggus of Waco will umpire the event with 50 cent and 25 cent admission each day. Games start at nine this Friday.

Farmers Enter Cotton Contest For Prizes

Milam County farmers join the more cotton on fewer acres contest with ninety entries split between fifty four Black farmers and thirty six White farmers. The Commercial Club urges wider participation as it prepares for state and local prizes.
