Gen Walker’s Body Lies In State In Yokohama

Lt. Gen. Walton H. Walker’s body was placed in a Yokohama chapel center to lie in repose until departure for the United States likely next Saturday. General MacArthur’s HQ said the chapel will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. for last respects after the jeep accident that killed him in Korea. Final rites are set for Arlington National Cemetery in Washington.

Milam County Draft Board announces a second January call for 22 men to report for preinduction physicals. The men will depart Cameron for Dallas on January 22 to undergo examinations at the Dallas Recruiting Station amid rising national draft quotas.

Milam County plans the March of Dimes campaign restart after sending only 380 dollars to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis last year. Four new polio cases were added recently and funds are sought for patient care and research toward a preventive serum.

Morrison to be sworn in as new Court of Criminal Appeals member

Judge W A Bill Morrison will take the oath Monday at 10 A M as the new member of the Court of Criminal Appeals succeeding Judge Hawkins. Chief Justice John E Hickman will administer the oath at the Capitol Austin. Also to be sworn in are Will Wilson and Robert W Calvert for the first time and Judge Meade Griffin for his first elective term.

Army Calls For Additional Reserves And Drafts

The Army ordered 7,500 reserve officers including lieutenants and captains and signals for an additional 100,000 draftees in March. Officers may be drawn from National Guard divisions if needed, with limited impact on units. Combined with medical staff, 27,000 reserve officers and 850 dentists and 890 physicians are to report in coming months.

Christmas Contest Winners Named in Cameron

Mrs B F Robinson won first prize for the 1950 Christmas Contest earning 50 dollars. The Elder Trio Frank Elder placed second with 35 dollars and Mrs Larry Hackabeil took third with 20 dollars. Fifteen entries were judged by Dr and Mrs Pedro Garcia and Nick Craig of Marlin.

Elton Ray Barron Jr of Thorndale earned All American Pee Wee honors as the lone Texas player. The 12 year old center for the Red Raiders played most of each game and is in the seventh grade, son of Horace and Mrs. Barron.

Graham Named District Judge for 20th District

C D Graham, Thorndale attorney, is appointed by Governor Allan Shivers to the 20th District Court in Milam County to fill the Morrison vacancy. R. T. Blakey's Rites At Ennis Wednesday

Funeral services for Rupert T. Blakey age 61 of Dallas were held at 10 A M at Keever Funeral Chapel in Ennis. Rev L D Anderson officiated with burial in Ennis. Blakey served as loan examiner for the Reconstruction Finance Corporation after years as vice president of First National Bank of Ennis and was reared there. He is survived by his wife two daughters a son and his mother and sister from Cameron Milam County and two grandchildren.
