The Herald plant will be closed on Monday as part of its annual custom. It will reopen Tuesday December 26. No Daily will be issued Saturday to give employees three days off for Christmas including Sunday.
J. T. Mayer aged 74 died at his daughter’s home in the Clarkson Community after a long illness. Funeral services were held at Marek-Burns Funeral Home with Rev. J. F. Kostohiz officiating and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Survived by three sons, six daughters, two brothers, three sisters, fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
The American Farm Bureau Federation closes its 32nd annual convention endorsing a longer work week to curb inflation. About 5,000 delegates representing 1,449,715 farm families oppose price wage and ration controls. They say controls won’t stop inflation and could strangle the economy amid possible war.
In Brussels the Atlantic Pact nations agree on a speedy plan to raise a European defense army of 50 to 100 divisions by 1952 under General Eisenhower. A joint production, finance, and raw materials board will oversee the program as Russia warns against rearming West Germany.
A Milam County farmer reports a fox head tested positive for rabies after attacking his dogs. State officials confirmed the diagnosis and note foxes pose ongoing risk to cattle. Some Texas counties offer bounties for fox wolf and coyote heads to curb rabies.
Cameron city records show 1950 building permits totaling 213362 up to December 15 led by private home construction. The year surpasses 1949 by about 60000 with four years totaling near a million dollars in homes and buildings while public improvements lag. Monthly totals ranged from 2700 to 53360 as materials stayed available despite later defense-driven shortages.
Frank Scofield the Collector of Internal Revenue for the First Texas District Austin Texas reminded farmers they may postpone filing a Declaration of Estimated Tax for 1950 until January 15 1951 if at least two thirds of income comes from farming. They may also file a full 1950 return on Form 1040 by January 31 1951 and avoid the estimated tax declaration. Farmers may obtain Forms 1040 ES and 1040F from local deputy collectors or by mail to Austin.
Mr and Mrs Charlie Schier of Brenham and Mr and Mrs Charlie Jahanke of Wharton visited Mr and Mrs Fritz Senkel and daughter at Buckholts for a weekend stay.

Doyle Brink and His Swingmasters of Waco will perform at the Roy Esslinger Wonder Shop on Saturday December 23 from 2 to 4 PM. The show was postponed but a bigger event is planned. the shop also features a large Christmas display and Esslinger expands with a new bakery in the rear of his grocery store.
R L Batte Sr remains in very serious condition for eight weeks but can take nourishment. The Batte family expresses thanks to friends and well wishers while noting he cannot receive visitors at this time.
Billy Ray Robbins left December 8 for induction into the Air Forces and is in basic training at Lackland Air Base in San Antonio. He is the youngest son of Mr and Mrs C S Robbins of Clarkson and the third Robbins family member to volunteer. A 1949 graduate of Yoe High School.
Jinks Denson and Finis Thweatt Gredéer are hunting this week with details pending. The pair are active participants in local sport pursuits and plan upcoming outings.
Cameron Texas faces a critical decision as the City Council considers issuing fifty thousand dollars in time warrants for right of way and curb and gutter construction along highways 190 and 36. A petition with 194 signatures asks voters be allowed to decide on incurring debt.
Mrs. C. H. Ruby dies at 90 from injuries after a Sunday fall in Yoakum. She had planned Christmas visit with daughter Mrs. Lorena Peter and is survived by daughter Mrs. Peterson, son Martin Ruby, a niece, grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Funeral 2:00 PM Tuesday at First Methodist with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
A sick father and exhausted mother with six children aged one to fourteen near Cameron face Christmas hardship. Donations of clothing bedding and toys are welcome and may be left at the Sheriff’s office per Deputy Douglas Barron.
A child writes to Santa asking for a playing card bingo set, clothes, a doll for four year old sister Jeanette, dishes, and doll clothes. The note mentions Ben Arnold school, third grade, and requests a baseball for a sibling, a drum for a brother, a dress and purse for a sister, and a hat for mother and a suit and hat for father, signed Billy Gene Matthews.
