The Milam County pecan timber owners and tree planters discuss forming a pecan association to promote the industry. T. S. Henderson backs the plan, noting agricultural development and a need to supplement farm revenues. County Agent Banzhaf is asked to help gather interested men.
Professor L R Walden, organizer of Walden's Business College in Bryan, announces a new Cameron business college to begin after the first of the year. The Bryan paper notes his wide experience, text authoring, and method to place students quickly in stenography and bookkeeping with strong Chamber of Commerce backing.
George T. Graves of Cameron State Bank endorses pecan grower organization in Milam County. Milam pecan crop valued at 75000 dollars with about 25000 dollars paid at Cameron. Cameron advertised for tree pruning and civic beautification via Lions Club yard contests and home improvement efforts.
Seven days remain for Christmas gift buyers as Cameron merchants stock up and offer easy economical and practical shopping. The Herald Christmas edition arrives December 22 with annual advertising and messages from Cameron firms, a traditional Milam County paper feature ending with a holiday subscription offer for 1027.
A 15 year old Cameron boy charged with entering the E A Oliver store near the Sap depot Sunday and taking 85 in money will perhaps be given an opportunity to mend his ways. All but $1.25 of the money has been recovered.
A 17 year old Russian resident J C Joseph sought freedom in the United States after reading about the Civil War. His journey and experiences as a youth were shared at Yee High School chapel exercises Tuesday morning. Joseph has since been active in business life, served city government, and earned the esteem of his townsmen.
The Blue Bird Choral Club directed by Miss Eloise Rogers presents a three part silver tea at the Country Club on December 2 with performances from 8 to 5, 5 to 7, and 8 to 10. A duet and readings accompany musical features as public attendance is invited.
Local listeners will hear Uncle Miht anele Mike James, champion Texas fiddler, on a Houston radio station December 20 at noon. The program will feature James and is expected to last about thirty minutes starting around 11 30 or noon.
M. E. Fisher of Temple, Texas buys bankrupt stock of W. Klawanski and starts a Friday morning sale. The updated stock is arranged for a real Christmas bargain feast as Fisher uses the slogan Meet me face to face in his Herald announcement.
The Herald received over 150 Cameron children letters addressed in care of the paper. Due to space, only part could be printed this week. A full Christmas section will run in the edition dated Wednesday December 22, with all letters appearing next week.
Jack Arriett writes to Santa in the Herald, expressing a wish for Santa to return to the North Pole. He criticizes recent Texas speeches and travel, but says he still loves the “right hand of Santa” and will leave it to him to judge what makes a good gift.
The Texas Supreme Court held that scholastics cannot transfer from rural districts to Cameron independent school district without paying tuition after state apportionment is exhausted. The decision affects independent districts statewide and upholds nonresident taxation limits. The case Den Stocomb et al v Cameron ISD originated in Milam County and involved injunctive relief efforts to stop tuition fees and exclude nonpaying students.
Cameron merchants unveil festive windows with hundreds of gifts. The Specialty Shop and Decker Motor Company lead with themed windows including a Dodge Sedan, while Lubert Hefley Motor Company Army Store and Texas Power and Light Company add seasonal decor. Other displays feature Bethlehem scenes by Cameron Seed Company and practical gift ideas from John Zalesky and Felix Matula.
Miss Vance Collier a Baylor University student spent the weekend with her mother Mrs C Collier. Companied on the return to Baylor Sunday afternoon were Corrie Collier Cornelia Esslinger Ethel Collins and Dorothy Blaylock.
One of the most beautiful entertainments by Cameron Schools will be presented by elementary pupils in the High School auditorium next Friday night at 7 30. The first part features A Surprise Christmas followed by a Christmas Pageant The Birth of Christ sung told and pantomimed with a vested choir of children. A small admission charge goes to benefit the schools.
