J. B. White notes on December 10 Milam county voters will decide on continuing government control of cotton marketing quotas. The Herald outlines the economic impact, citing a Milam loss of about 1.73 million dollars over three years under the program, versus potential earnings without control.

Wallace N Moody 68 of Minerva died at his home Wednesday at 5 AM after a long illness. He was born in Michigan City Indiana March 3 1870 and married Nannie Cone December 22 1905. Survived by wife three sons Conn Wallace Jr and Dwight Cameron two daughters Mrs Hilton Culpepper Cameron and Mrs George Clark Beaumont. Funeral at ten o clock Thursday from Minerva residence with Rev A J MecCary and Rev Ann Reed. Interment Minerva Cemetery Coleman Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers George Manley W T Hefley Bob Terry F O Brock Davis Jenkins Jim Baskin Henley Murphree N H Fletcher.
Funeral services were held at 3 p m Friday for Miss Cora Barmore 23 who died in Houston Thursday night December 1 from a gunshot wound in the head. Rev O C Acrey conducted the Presbyterian service after the body was moved from Coleman Undertaking Co chapel. She was born in Cameron survived by parents Mr and Mrs J L Barmore and three brothers Gaston W C and Clifford. She lived at 407 West Saulnier St and worked as a stenographer for Bates Construction Co of Houston. She died in St Josephs Hospital.
Mrs. W. O. Triggs, leader among women, spoke at a Cameroom Rotary Lions luncheon about Germany and Italy colonial claims and the wider world problem of population distribution and economic expansion. Musical program by Mrs. Guy Haynes and W. C. Wiese chaired the event, planned as an annual gathering.
Members of the Rotary Club announced on Wednesday the launch of a new weekly bulletin titled Cameron Dogs. The paper, edited by a committee, will inform and educate club members. January.
Cameron Herald urges young readers to write and mail letters to Santa for the annual Christmas edition. Schools in the county should have pupils draft letters and send them to the Herald office urgently, with material due by next week.
Cameron Theatre announces a partial December lineup led by The Great Waltz on December 15 and 16. Also showing are The Adventures of Robin Hood on request, plus Stablemates with Wallace Berry and Mickey Rooney and That Certain Age starring Deanna Durbin.
Ada Mae Hinman resigns as Milam County Home Demonstration assistant effective January 1, 1986. She plans marriage, moving to Roswell New Mexico where her husband J C Wood works for the Soil Conservation Program. Katherine Wilson will succeed Hinman as assistant agent starting January.
The Athletic Council plans the annual football banquet for Tuesday December 15 at 7 30 in the gym. Yee High School girls from home economics will serve. Albert Collins will toast master with speaker Coach Morley Jennings of Baylor University. Awards to players by Coach L C Wood. Yee High Swing Band directed by Francis Cox will provide music.
A large crowd is expected in Taylor on Friday December 9 at 2 p.m. for the regional football championship between the Taylor Ducks and the Brady Bulldogs. Both teams hold perfect records and are set for an exciting game.
Milam County undertakes repairs to the Court House roof and tower under a U S Government PWA grant. The project includes a modern flat roof, removal of the tower and clock for safety, and potential re installation of the clock on the new roof. The project cost 23932 with an 11659 government grant and 45 percent federal reimbursement. Completion is targeted within 150 days with plans for clock reinstallation and electrical clock mechanism.
In Cameron 287 voters approved a $180000 revenue bond issue for Community Public Service Company properties. The low turnout and 144 for to 9 against show waning public interest since 1937. The city plans no sale of assets and vows new votes if negotiations with the water company fail.
Otto Nin Smith leased Sap Market near the Southern Pacific depot to Mason and Arthur Longmire, longtime market operators who will maintain the store’s high service standard as Mr. Smith retires due to ill health and plans a new home on adjoining property.
Mrs Bennie Winfield and Mrs Grady Sitham attended a Bell County PTA council meeting held at the Academy Consolidated School in Little River this week.
Vernon G. Miles, longtime pastor of the First Baptist Church in Cameron, announced his resignation effective January 1, 1989. He had received a call to lead the Hillsboro Baptist Church and chose to accept after consideration. Miles came from Du Quoin Illinois and succeeded N. D. Timmerman, who later moved to Clarksdale Mississippi.
