Milam County Valuation Rises to 28 438 651 and Tax Payer Reminders

Milam County total valuation increased to 28 438 651 dollars from last year’s 23 350 066. County Tax Assessor Walter White notes 77 percent of the amount has been collected while payer turnout lags. Some 11 955 taxpayers who have not paid 1954 taxes may deduct one percent if paid before January 1. Taxes may be paid by mail with a mailed notice and money order. add 1 75 dollars for state and county poll tax if purchasing one. G C Black visited his Houston children last week.

Mrs. J. M. Brashear Dies in Bastrop

Mrs. J. M. Brashear dies in Bastrop Friday morning. Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Sunday at Hasler Funeral Home with graveside rites at 3 p.m. in Salem Cemetery. Local arrangements by Marek Burns. She leaves son Homer Brashear of La Marque daughter Odel Clade of Texas City two brothers Alf and Joe Lowden of Bastrop and four grandchildren.

Steve Polzer Wins Central Texas Conservation Award

Steve F. Polzer, living four miles southwest of Cameron, was named winner of the $25 runner-up award in the outstanding conservation farmer selection for the Central Texas Soil Conservation District. His 140 acre farm features extensive terraces, water channels, and diversified grasses. In recent years he produced 14 500 pounds of cotton on 28 acres, 40 bushels of corn per acre, and 35 bushels of oats per acre, with a 32 acre pasture supporting 15 cattle.

Milam County Strept Throat Cases Rise Amid Week’s Health Report

Bethel Church Wins First In Christmas Parade

Bethel A M E Church claimed first prize for a float featuring a lion and lamb with a child leading them. The event, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, drew wide school and community participation with Santa Claus, floats, bands, and various groups competing for prizes.

Texas in grass state yields grain fed beef at Randle Lake

Randle Lake plantation near Cameron will market about 650 steers in late December and January. The two year old cattle average 950 pounds, with half grading choice and half good. The operation relies on home grown grain and grass farming, rotating four tracts with oats hubam clover alfalfa and row crops, plus permanent pastures, to finish cattle with minimal external feed.

Community Chest Nears Goal in Cameron This Week

Cameron community drive nears its 5 000 dollar target with about 3 500 pledged in two weeks. Chairman E A Perrin credits generous businessmen and volunteers for progress and notes no residential drive this year. Donations go to scout and girl programs welfare needs and school milk funds. Killeen Advances In Bi-District Tilt Over Cameron

The Killeen Kangaroos beat the Cameron Yoemen 27 to 7 at home in a bi district clash. Kangaroos forced multiple Yoe fumbles, jumped to a 14-0 lead, and extended to 20-0 before Cameron's late score. Reding and Kirchoff powered the early points, while Armstrong to Peebles produced a 59 yard scoring pass.

All School Carnival And Coronation Set For December 7

Final plans for the coronation of the school queens are under way at Yee High Ada Henderson and Ben Milam. The All School Carnival and coronation occur Tuesday night December 7 at 7 p m in the gym. Queens and princesses pick escorts this week. kings and princes to be announced later. Proceeds go to the school milk funds and the activity fund supporting the Interscholastic League in spring.

Special Train To Killeen Big Success

Cameron football fans rode a special train to Killeen Friday night in a rush of enthusiasm. About 415 Cameronites boarded at 6 p m including 51 children and band students, arriving around 7 15 p m. Jaycee president Jimmy Wiggs praised the trip as a rip roaring success with refreshments on board and bus shuttles to the stadium and back after the game.

Training Union Revival At First Baptist Church
