Possum Supper Brings Elberta Woodmen to Joyful Night

Elberta Camp Woodmen of the World near Milano held its annual Possum Supper drawing a large crowd. Judge J D Ruby introduced speakers including Judge John Watson of Cameron and O D Baker, with Will Yates sharing thoughts on the order. Music, dancing, a quadrille, and Victrola tunes followed, and guests enjoyed a tea and coffee service with red rose favors, praised as a delightful social function.

Episcopal Guild Hosts City Church Ladies Reception

The Episcopal Guild hosted a Monday afternoon reception for women from all church societies. Master Stanton Dossett greeted guests at the door as the hostess Mrs Oxshee M. Smith stood with prominent city wives. The decor featured red and gold autumn leaves roses and chrysanthemums. The receiving line included R M Hardman W A Gillon and H G Willis.

Thanksgiving service and social visits in Maysfield

The community in Maysfield enjoyed a Thanksgiving service led by Brothers Crockell and Bailey. Local residents including Miss Eulalia Thweatt, Ruth Taylor, Miss Myrtice Rogers, and several families hosted and visited Cameron and Walkers Creek friends during the weekend and holiday gatherings.

Milam County Grand Jury Report Urges Reform and Oversight

The Milam County Grand Jury reports after eight days of service examining 261 witnesses. They indict 22 cases, urge jail sanitation, departmental inspections, and itemized claims, and call for public audits and tougher enforcement of deputy regulations. Milam County Rural Schools Benefit From Aid Grants

Milam County schools have received portions of the million dollar rural aid fund. Granger district 4 receives 300 dollars, San Gabriel district 8 200, Ad Hall 49 400, Buckholts 50 400, Bryant Station 52 200, Ben Arnold 59 250. A state supervisor will inspect before January 1 to verify eligibility, as some applicants failed to meet all requirements or are still pending.

The 42 club held an open house Thanksgiving evening hosted by Mrs. Don Moore. Guests included Mrs. Freeman and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith of Calvert. W. R. Looney won high score in games. hot chocolate and angel food cake were served. Dr. Hubert is ill in Cameron Sanitarium. M. R. Looney and W. R. Looney bought a Paige car in Waco. Ralph Looney visited the Texas Notre Dame game. Branchville residents enjoyed Harrison Tent Theatre in Cameron.

Milano Thresher Company Organized in Cameron

The Milano Thresher Company was organized November 24 with G. W. Butts elected president and W. R. Demos secretary. A subsequent meeting on November 30 completed the organization. Walter Baggett of Tracy was in Cameron visiting friends amid talk of his possible run for district clerk.
