Reverend Blaylock resigns in Rockdale to lead Cameron church

Reverend B B Blaylock preached his farewell at Rockdale Baptist Church and announced he accepted the Cameron Baptist Church call. He explained the Fort Worth evangelistic plan was a setup to open Cameron work and will move to Cameron to pastor. Rockdale laity express support and the pulpit committee searches for a new pastor.

L. and A. Club of Hoyte Meeting Closes Year Updates

The L. A. C. H. met at Rev. Calvin Pressley’s residence on Friday December 3 at 7 30 pm. Officers for the new term were elected including Theo Achenback president Sophia Nicholson vice president Nancy Ethridge secretary John C Stewart treasurer Frank Pressley sergeant at arms Alda Batey Florence Ford tellers Mamie Stewart critic George Batey chaplain. A plan to meet December 10 with a literary program was announced and visitors are welcome except at special business meetings. County Demonstrator George Banzhaf attended, promoting educational work among progressive farmers.

Villa Reported as Disappeared After Hermosillo Battle

Nogales November 30 reports from General Alvaro Obregon say Pancho Villa's insurgent army was defeated and scattered by General Manuel Dieguez at Hermosillo. Three hundred Villa soldiers were wounded, six hundred surrendered south of Magdalena, and 200 more laid down arms at Llano. Remaining forces demoralized and surrendering in small groups. trains abandoned at Magdalena.

Salmagundi Party Honors Nell Streetman in Cameron

Miss Nell Streetman of Houston was honored at a Salmagundi Party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Brown in Cameron on Monday evening. The home featured red roses and ferns with progressive games and red score pads. After games, pressed turkey, fruit salad, pickles, sandwiches and cranberry ice were served. Nell, daughter of Judge Sam Streetman of Houston, is visiting Cameron after graduating from Randolph-Macon College last June.

Home Talent Play Planned by Civic League

The Civic League met in the Waylanders Club rooms Friday at 3 p.m. to plan a home talent play to refill the league treasury. Local prominent citizens are being asked to assist and attend, with the event aimed at benefiting city improvement and offering the public an enjoyable evening. W. B. Porter of Gause, former Milam County Commissioner, was in the city on Monday on business and is welcomed by friends in Camere.

Reception Honors New Cameron Methodist Pastor

Mrs. H F Smith hosted a Thursday evening reception honoring Rev H C Willis and his wife marking their twenty first anniversary and welcoming the Cameron congregation newly arrived from Longview The Smith home featured pink roses and ferns with a cascad e of elegant decor Ruth Coleman and Jessie Guffey served cake and cream while Miss Aetna Smith Oxsheer Smith Rush Thomas and H F Smith Jr assisted Special guests included Mrs Lizzie Wilson and Mrs Ida J Powell Salem with Mrs Wilson noted for welcoming preachers to Cameron for over fifty years The event concluded with a gracious display of hospitality by the Smith family

Reception at Morton Home for Baylor Glee Club Guests

Friday evening a reception hosted by Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Morton honored their house party guests and Baylor University Glee Club. The decorated parlor featured white and pink roses and Mexican Poinsettias. Notables in the receiving line included Nell Morton Miss Reynolds Cornish Allison Jessie Truett and Glee Club director John De Hick and others. Punch and white cake were served in the dining room with guests from Rockdale among the attendees.

Earthquake Felt Across Region Including Cairo Illinois

A severe earthquake was recorded at Cairo Illinois at 12:45 PM with shocks felt along both sides of the Mississippi for 200 miles and east to Paducah Kentucky. The tremor lasted 15 to 20 seconds locally, while St Louis University seismograph logged shocks for over sixteen minutes with no reported damage.

Wonderland Theatre to donate half gross for charity

Hefley manager of Wonderland Theatre pledges the United Charities one half of Monday gross receipts for December 13. A strong program is promised to attract a large crowd as cold weather approaches and funds are needed.

J C Gould and J T Thweatt transacted business in Cameron on Friday. Rodney Anderson of Jones Prairie visited Maysfield Wednesday while Walter Mullinix came as a Cameron visitor Sunday. Hub Massengale suffered a serious hay load accident but was improving. Mrs J Gould and daughter Ethyle visited Mrs J S Barmore Saturday. The Presbyterian Aid plans another room addition to the manse. Other locals include Harmon Thweatt in Calvert, Ada Belle McGuire and Louie Denson weekend with family, Prof and Mrs Roark hosting a Friday social, and several visits among Maysfield, Cameron and Jones Prairie residents.
