Cameron's Folk Fete, led by Charles Kunz, will join 140 Central Texans at the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio from September 6 to 9. The 18 member volunteer group returns to original German music and steps to expand its repertoire and compete with other ethnic groups.

Cameron Lawyers Appointed For Stewart Murder Cases
Two Cameron attorneys were appointed to defend Douglas M. Stewart after a Falls County grand jury indicted him on two counts of murder with malice of a peace officer. The slayings of Deputies Albert Watkins and Dean Humphus occurred as they attempted to arrest Stewart near Marlin. Stewart, held in McLennan County jail, told Judge Patterson he could not hire counsel, prompting court appointment.

Milam REACT To Sponsor Labor Day Rest Stop
Milam County REACT will sponsor a Labor Day rest stop for motorists from 6 p m Friday to 8 p m Monday 24 hour operation. Last year about 2300 travelers paused for coffee and Coke south of Cameron across Little River bridge. The club funds beverages cookies and supplies with donations and assists stranded motorists via citizens band radio.

Alcoa Offspring Apply For Two Scholarships
Central Texas dependents of Alcoa workers may apply for two four year Alcoa Foundation college scholarships worth four thousand dollars annually. Applications due by September 7. eligibility requires upper senior class performance or at least a C plus average and three years of company service. Local selection board includes Jim Moorman and area superintendents.

Texas DPS Warns Labor Day Weekend Traffic Toll May Reach 42
Colonel Wilson E. Speir of the Texas Department of Public Safety warns up to 42 people may die in Texas traffic over the Labor Day weekend. The period runs 6 p.m. August 31 to midnight September 3 with heightened patrols and a public prevention program named Operation Motorcide. Speir notes intensified enforcement for speeding driving while intoxicated improper passing and wrong-way driving and promises three daily fatal crash briefings.

New State Laws Allow Right Turn On Red And Extend Adulthood

First Bale Ginned At Buckholts Milam County
The first bale of Milam County cotton was ginned last week August 23 by Modern Gin of Buckholts. Al vin Glaser of Route 2 Rosebud brought the cotton in. The bale weighed 570 pounds with 2300 pounds seed. September 15. New laws may affect markets with bread in eight ounce packages.
