Flames Threaten Gas Tanks At Sigmore Shamrock Service Station
A pre dawn explosion tore through the Sigmore Shamrock Service Station on US 81 south of Georgetown. Fire swept the station for the second time this year as overflowing tanks and spilled fuel fueled the blast. The blast damaged the front of the building and ruptured a drink cooler but a swift fire department response kept flames from reaching the above ground tanks.

Two men were hurt when four engines derailed after two Santa Fe freight trains sideswiped in downtown Moody. One freight moving south struck as a second freight on a side track began to move, causing the engines to tumble during passing.

3000 Honor Two Congressmen at Central Texas Barbecue
More than 3,000 Central Texas guests, including Poage of Waco and Pickle of Austin, attended a barbecue expanding from the 10th to the 11th District. U S Rep Poage and Rep Pickle greeted attendees for over two hours in a pecan grove by the San Gabriel River near Taylor. The one pound Tbone steaks were replaced by barbecued brisket due to a meat shortage.

Judge O D Graham district judge in Cameron for ten years died August 21 at St Edward Hospital after months of illness. Funeral at Marek Burns Laywell Funeral Home officiated by Rev J Lee Scott. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. He was born November 22 1884 near Milano Caldwell. He graduated Sam Houston University 1909 and UT Law 1913 and practiced in Thorndale 35 years as a civic leader.
