Hubam Clover Boosts Maize Yield In Side By Side Farm Test

J W Garner of Rockdale reports Hubam clover raised on deep blacksand soils near Sharp in McDonalds Store Community increased maize yield from 1100 to 2300 pounds per acre. Garner notes the 2300 pound field costs roughly the same to grow, bringing about about 20 dollars per acre more profit. Soil conservationists cite improved soil conditions from the legume and better tolerance to wet, cold, and nutrient-poor periods, with Adrian I Moore confirming potential higher gains with proper fertilization and inoculation.

Farmers Average 200 Ponds Per Year in Milam County

Milam County has built about 200 ponds yearly over five or six years, with most large enough for fish and livestock water. Ponds stocked with bass and bluegill now require summer fertilization to maximize bass growth, as fertile water supports algae and worms feeding bluegills, while thinning bluegill numbers begins in October to prevent overpopulation.
