Milam County Courthouses Through Four Buildings
Milam County, Cameron, rebuilt its courthouse story from 1846 to 1939 with four structures on the same site. The first was a small 30 by 20 foot frame building. A larger two story court and dance hall followed, hosting notable incidents including a sheriff shooting and Averitt killing. A 1876 brick and wood third building cost about 11250 with local donations. In 1892 a larger granitelike brick building replaced it, later enhanced with an ornate clock tower and grounds improvements.
