Yoemen footballers start two a day workouts under Coach John Roberts with morning and evening sessions at Yoe Field. They scrimmage Thorndale on Sept. 1 and open the season Sept. 7 at Cameron hosting Rosebud.
The Cameron Womens Summer League held its annual bowling party on Monday August 13 at Cameron Lanes. The Twister captained by Kathryn Jeter won the championship in a three game playoff over the Hot Shots and received WIBC arm patches. Charlotte Morgan earned the most improved bowler award with a 13 pin gain.
The Tigers hold a one game lead in the Cameron Mixers bowling league with a 27 12 record to the Hornets 26 18. The sixth place Tuffies posted a 1962 series and 676 single game while the Dogs followed with 1887 series and Tigers 1864. Individual high scores include Richard Hollas 220 top men and Marie Ann Laake 187 top women, Leo Hollas 558 men, Mary Gage 484 women.
Rogers Pep Squad began full practice for the 1962 football season with an 8 p.m. session in the gym. Yell leaders returned Friday from a cheerleader school at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where they attended August 12 to 17.
Coach John Roberts addressed a Knights of Columbus gathering with assistants Joe Davis and Sonny Everett. He outlined Cameron schools year round sports program for all age groups, including intramural grade competition and a varsity equipment showcase.
Keglers 2033, 692 and Luckey Strikes 1952, 690 top team series and game marks. Alley Oops ranked third in series at 1898 with a tie in single game against Five Eights 663. Betty Backhaus 485, Faye Smith 434, Florence Smith 433 led individual series. Faye Smith 8, Betty Backhaus 174, Cynthia Edelman 170 led high games. Standings show Luckey Strikes 304, Keglers 28 16, Hi Lo’s 26 18, Alley Oops 23 21, Queen Pins 20 29-24, Five Eights 13 26, Blast Offs 17 27, Pin Dodgers 14 30.
Cameronite Leon Jaworski of Houston appointed four local attorneys to the Bar disciplinary committee for the 11th Congressional District with three year terms on the grievance committee including A. Lee Curtis Belton Bryan L. McClellan Gatesville and Jack W Prescott Cameron. Charles E. Reagan Marlin named to the grievance prosecuting committee for three years. Emory B. Camp of Cameron Bar district director serves as ex officio member of both committees.
Maple Leaguers schedule an organizational meeting announced by Alvin Meyer president. Meeting is Friday night at 8 p m at the Bowling Lanes. Captains and team members urged to attend and anyone interested in bowling in the league is invited.
Cameron Cardinals defeated the Bryan Lone Stars 12 to 1 Sunday. Monroe Bayer started for the Cards with Rodney Felschinsky as relief pitcher. Flores was tagged as catcher. Cameron will play Bryan Lulaes Sunday in Lulacs Park in Bryan.
A picnic for the LiL Bears from the Little League was held on the bank of Little River at the Clayton Barton farm this week. After boating and swimming, a barbecue with all the trimmings followed for players Ralph Duffy John Graham David Gaines Dennis Simecek Ben Mauldin Horace White David Barrett John Urban Dusty Mauldin Jack McKinney Tommy Barton Jerry Barton manager Roy Mauldin coach LaVert McKinney and host Clayton Barton.
Technical Sergeant Buford W. Gaeke of Rosebud has graduated from the Military Air Transport Service Academy at Orlando AFB Florida. He is reassigned to Tripoli Libya as an aircraft maintenance technician. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Charles H Gaeke of Rosebud and previously attended Rosebud High School. His wife Mary P. Taylor of Lott is the mother of their four children. Also visiting were Mr and Mrs Mies Gienn and children Tom and Karen of Kalamazoo Michigan to see her brother and family Mr and Mrs Frank Luecke.
Legal notices demand appearance in Milam County Court Cameron for Matilda Roznos Sapp estate contest and a public citation in a divorce action against Margaret Burke Smith. The notices list dates, docket numbers, and required responses. Also reports Katherine Sproull’s 16 day tour to Colorado, Yellowstone Park and western US with Doyle Rice.
More than a hundred attend the Yoe High parents night as Coach John Roberts outlines the athletic program. Coach Joe Davis demonstrates protective gear and injury safety measures while Coach Sonny Everett reviews training, diet, and rest rules for the gridiron players. Raymond Bennett, an Austin College graduate, arrives in Cameron. Refreshments are provided by the Cameron Quarterback Club during a tour of facilities.
Post 85 of Cameron sponsors a road rally at the Dairyland in Cameron starting at 2:30 PM Sunday August 26. Drivers follow a course set by the Texas Department of Public Safety with traffic rules observed for timing. Trophies will be awarded to event winners.
