The second at Cameron district court room Aug 21 at 8 00 pm. The third at Milano Milano Gym August 22 at 8 00 pm. The fourth at Thorndale high school August 23 at 8 00 pm.

Improve Soil Conditions Key To Milam Defense Production
Farmers in Milam County are urged by Paul C. Graves to improve soil conditions as a foundation for higher defense related production. Improved soil supports better seed, machinery, pesticides, and practices from the Agricultural Conservation Program, with cover crops reducing erosion and adding fertility. The PMA office in Cameron offers guidance. 1951 loan base rate for on farm stored cotton is 31.54 with 3 percent interest, due July 31, 1952, loans available through April 30, 1952.

Rogers Man Killed in Wreck Near Seguin
Henry M. Bennefield of Rogers died from a car truck collision 13 miles west of Seguin on U. S. 90. Bill Staggs Jr. of San Antonio, driver of the gasoline truck, was seriously injured. Bennefield, a World War II veteran and Major in the 90th Infantry, held the Silver Star and Purple Heart and served in Europe and Asia. Funeral planned August 11 at First Methodist Church Rogers with a masonic burial in Rogers Cemetery. Survived by widow, one son, three brothers, and one sister.

Cameron city water department reports July gross revenue of 5888.21, up from 4844.56 in June. Net income totaled 4282.63 after expenses of 1605.58. Water use rose by 7 300 000 gallons year over year as new connections increased. The municipal pool earned a 315.55 net profit with major repairs completed and improvements planned for future years.

Firemen Called Four Times Sunday in Elm Creek Area
Fire marshal John Eanes reports several grass fires Sunday in Elm Creek area with the Elm Creek Bridge catching fire at 3 PM. Volunteers battled fires at Terrell Addition Hoyte Community and H. B. Pressley place. all were brought under control as the dry weather persisted.

Funeral services set for John P. Howard of Dallas at Moody Texas Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m. Sunday August 12. He died in a Dallas hospital from a heart attack Friday at 9:00 a.m. He was brother in law of Mrs Nina Wilkerson of Cameron and survived by widow the former Edna Carlton formerly of Cameron, son Dr. J P Howard of San Diego and two grandchildren, plus a sister in Galveston. He had worked for the Telephone Company. Mrs Wilkerson and Mrs Bill Alex Bonds left for Dallas.

Alcoa Plans 5000-Ton Aluminum Plant in Milam County
The Interior Department approved plans for an Aluminum Co. of America plant in Milam County to run on Texas lignite. Acting Interior Secretary Searles said DP A certificates of necessity would be issued. The 5000 short tons per year facility would use lignite from near Sandow and receive interim power from Texas Power and Light Co. until its own plant is ready.
