Free Texas schools in jeopardy as apportionment cuts loom
Austin reports Texas free schools face four months of operation next year after a $12 per capita apportionment. The board of education and Superintendent Marrs warn emergency state funds are unlikely. a $2 million supplement helps only part of the need, while rural aid and textbook contracts complicate the budget. The attorney general ruling on the license tax could further cut school funds.
