Evangelist M L Pardo Dies After Stroke At 62

M L Pardo aged 62 an evangelist for over twenty years in the United States and Cuba died at 1 30 o clock Tuesday afternoon at his home after a stroke of apoplexy He had been ill about three months He was born in Donaldsonville La in 1866 and married Lottie Davis of San Antonio in 1888 He lived in Texas thirty years except for a year in Mississippi and two years in Cuba He was pastor of the Marlow Baptist church near Cameron Surviving are his wife four daughters Naomi Charlotte and Mrs J P Terrell Jr and Mrs Syd Stidham one son Charles one brother Joe and one sister Mrs Frank Cannon Funeral services were held Wednesday at 5 30 p m at the First Baptist church with ministers Hutcherson Blaylock and Ramsey officiating Pallbearers were S M Burns F J Beckerman Wm Henderson W G Allen and R P Jeter Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Giant Catfish Weighs 70 Pounds On Little River

Hayden Lawrence and Jim Stutts landed a seventy pound yellow catfish on the Little River after weeks of tugs and a rough fight. Minerva friends Gib Terry and W A Jones aided, with a large crowd gathering to witness the catch and the weighing on the ice plant wall. The catch stirs local fishers to try duplicating the feat.

At Milam County Hardware Company a drawing offered a Detroit Jewel Gas Stove to depositors of 89.00. The winner was F A Michalka of Cameron Machine Shop who was notified after the drawing.

Planters Gin Co. Burns Friday at Maysfield

The Maysfield gin, Planters Gin Company, burned Friday night around 1:80 o clock. The fire origin is undetermined. Recent $7000 repair work adds to the loss, partly covered by insurance. Corporate owners listed as H. L. Yager, H. L. Atkinson, J. C. Freeman, and B. P. Atkinson.

Buckholts Defeats Santa Fe Nine In Cameron setback

Buckholts beat Santa Fe 8 to 1 in Cameron to seize a second straight win in Central Texas amateur baseball. Beasley pitched the full game for Santa Fe and issued many walks as Buckholts’ hitters produced ample offense led by Summerell who also homered. Lawrence and Craft provided Santa Fe’s lone run with a doubled two-out rally in the seventh.

Milam County Road Contract Let for Bridge Work

Judge Jeff T Kemp and County Engineer A F Mitchell report the State Highway Commission let four and a half miles of grading and drainage structure highway to Thomas and Ratliff for 34144. Four large bridges on the same section were awarded to the same contractor for 94074. The project improves the Thorndale to Rockdale road and includes a Brushy Creek bridge.

Crouch Family Reunion Held At Gause Home

J P and Mrs Crouch of Gause hosted a large reunion on Sunday August 5 with 46 participants. The gathering included eleven children and 25 grandchildren among relatives from Cameron Taylor Waxahachie Maysfield Ferris Silver City Tracy Celina and other areas. The day featured a watermelon feast basket lunch group photo and ice cream and cake.

Gas Test On Hudson Shows Good Mileage

The Hudson gas test achieved sixteen miles per gallon on two tests on Burlington and Milano roads. A gallon measured at the dash fed directly to the carburetor, with witnesses on file, and a new motor delivering about 90 brake horsepower. The car’s mileage is noted as steadily improving with wear and factory equipment.

A barn on the A. B. Richards farm at North Elm burned Monday night. Five hundred bales of new hay were destroyed in the blaze. Origin of the fire is unknown.

More Good Roads Work Is Proposed

At the Commercial Club meeting Ed Pickering of the US Bureau of Animal Husbandry outlined future livestock industry plans for Milam County and announced six weeks of illustrated lectures to be held at county schoolhouses. Lions Club Luncheon Features Minnie Wolf Program

A large turnout at the Methodist church basement enjoyed a program by Miss Minnie Wolf. Her rendition of John Brown's Ford and the calisthenics inspired by the song pleased the older members while the play John Smith and Pocahontas was exceptionally well rendered and a knockout.

Farmer Injured in Car Wreck Near Travis

Burlington farmer Mr Allridge sustained severe internal injuries when the Ford touring car he rode in rolled over at a sharp road corner one mile north of Travis. The steering wear broke during the accident at 10:00 Thursday morning.

Mrs L V Perkins hosted a party for forty children to celebrate Dorothy Perkins turning seven and Charlotte Perkins turning five at the Perkins home. Florence Atkinson told stories while Frederick Graves Maidie Watson and Lola Clinton helped run games. Ice cream cake was served and the birthday cakes were cut. Baptist Encampment Opens Here August Twelfth

The Milam County Baptist Encampment begins next Sunday evening at 8 00 P M in Cameron City Park. A large attendance is expected with study inspirational addresses and recreation on a five day program.
