Funeral for Joe Jinks Held in Cameron

The community mourns the death of twenty four year old Joe Jinks who died in San Angelo. His funeral was held Sunday at the home of Mrs Cora Cammer with Rev J W Milton and Baptist Sunday School members officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery as friends formed a circle around the grave.

The Census Bureau reports continental United States population at 98,000,000 plus as of July 1 1914 with total U S and possessions near 109 million. Projections show 98,781,324 for the mainland and 109,021,992 for the nation including possessions, versus 1910 counts.

Decoration Day Service in Presbyterian Church Honors Confederate Veterans

Heavy April showers did not dampen attendance as Confederate Veterans and friends gathered for a Decoration Day memorial at the Presbyterian church. Dr. W. A. Gillon led the program with a grand chorus, Rev. Dean White praised both Northern and Southern soldiers, and a roll call of about 150 departed comrades was read by Graham Gillis.

North Texas Floods Rise After Heavy Rains

Texas suffers widespread flooding as three days of rains push rivers to flood stages. Dallas reports two fatalities including 12 year old Thomas McIntyre drowned in Mill Creek. Widespread warnings urge relief for low lying homes and evacuation to higher grounds.

Wind and Rain Cause Heavy Damage Across Temple Area

Heavy rainfall totaling 5.10 inches inundated Temple and nearby countryside causing damage in the hundreds of thousands. Santa Fe traffic along the line was halted due to a washout at Baggots Station with an iron span and 400 feet of track washed away. Temporary bridge construction began as crews restored transport. Knob Creek and Little River peaked, flooding streets and forcing evacuations in parts of Temple. A lightning strike damaged a farmer Mullins's mule herd, while sewer trenches and property losses added to the storm toll.
