The Texas Industrial Congress offers a $10,000 prize for field crop contest entrants. The entry deadline is May 1 with no entry fee. The study plots aim to show actual farm yields and profits, inviting farmers and their families to participate via submitted applications.
The decoration committee asks all flower growers to donate as many blooms as possible for the worthy gauge and send them to the home of Robert McLane by Saturday morning April 25. If unable to deliver, call 128 at Mrs. McLane's residence for a pickup.
Milam County court notices list land transfers totaling thousands of dollars from various owners including W. W. Hill and A. W. Sullivan. A batch of marriage licenses is recorded along with grand jurors and bailiffs. Court cases set dates in April and May for debt and damages actions.
The Thorndale Independent School District held an April 15 election approving a $20,000 school building bond and a 20 cent maintenance tax by over three to one. Voter tallies were 194 for bonds, 60 against. 192 for tax, 1 against. The board will canvass results and arrange sale and construction to follow.
List of civil actions with parties including C. P. Guess versus J. R. Merry man and others for debt set May 18. Buckholts State Bank versus F. D. Benton for tort and damages set May 18. J. R. Delano versus L. S. Delano for partition set May 19. S. T. Southens versus Bessie E. Marks and others for T. T. T. set May 25. F. A. Rylander versus D. H. Jenks for T. T. T. and damages set May 26. W. C. Miller versus S. W. Tel. and Tel. Co. for damages set May 27. Rockdale State Bank versus Frank Evard for debt set May 28.
Cameron hosts the Milam County Summer Normal from June 15 to July 3 with Frank J. Clement and conductor John B. Poteet guiding. The program touts strong faculty, good facilities, moral influence, and aims to aid students in earning or upgrading teaching certificates.
Dismissals include J P Fulton v Frank Kracia and Bertha Daughtery v J K Quinn. Several suits settled with May dates listed for appearances or foreclosures. Notable cases include Smith v Tubbs to set aside deed and Hefley v Security Trust Co. debt and foreclosure. Estate contest for E J Delano listed for May 19.
The Jubilate meetings at Rockdale drew large crowds with sermons by Dr. Milton and messages by Dr. Davis. Mrs. Milton, Mrs. Townsend, and Mrs. Coupeland were highlighted for their talks and work at the enrollment table. Visitors from Caldwell Cameron and other towns attended. the lavender and white enrollment book was presented to Mrs. Hicks.
County Commissioner W B Porter of this precinct praises the Gause clay roads project. He notes the $50 000 bond built 35 miles of roads, argues clay be kept in good condition with dragging after rains, and says the roads may outlast macadam. Also reports community notes and a 13th birthday gathering for Miss Harriett Henderson.
The 13 leading Texas crops earned an average $18.52 per acre in 1913, above the national average of $16.31 for the same crops. The list includes corn wheat oats barley rye buckwheat potatoes hay flax seed cotton rice and tobacco. The bulletin is released by the Crop Reporting Board of the U S Department of Agriculture. Jim Chadwick Burlington visited the city Saturday seeking support for county superintendent and reported growing in favor.
