Rotary Interact Leaders Shine At Waco Conference

Cameron's Rotary Interact Club of Yee High School sent reps to a two day District 587 gathering in Waco. President Don Manley and District Lt Governor Jack McKinney with Dennis Rose Hill Stroup and Steve Smith supported Cameron's VHS club, first in Texas, among 4A high schools.

Three Named To CISD Equalization Board

Three men were named to the CISD Equalization Board at a Cameron School Board meeting. Sam Brewer Otto Patzke and William Watkins were appointed to serve on the school Equalization Board per Supt. D R Dodson. Yeemen elected football captains for the fall semester season per Head Coach Ken Fuqua. Captains for the fall 1967 season will be Wayne Kirk Glenn Fogle James Dohnalik and Jim Lafferty.

Hunt Interests Leasing In Milam County Oil Block

Milam County sees the only active oil work as H. L. Hunt interests of Dallas assemble a large lease block in south Milam near Burleson and Lee counties. W. H. Hunt Margaret Hunt Trust Estate and Lamar Hunt hold leases covering multiple leagues and surveys across Burleson and nearby county lines. The Hunt leases lie several miles west of Shell Oil Company’s block where three Smackover wildcat wells have been drilled in three years.

Chandler and Kirk Qualify for State Track Finals

Yee High School sends two juniors Chandler and Kirk to the Texas state finals in Austin May 5 and 6 with high hopes of titles. Chandler won the regional mile and Kirk claimed the discus regional title with 146-24.

Youth Charged In Connection With Break In

Gary Maddox about 17 of Cameron faces burglary charges in an amended complaint for the April 15 Yee High School break in. A language lab console was damaged and offices vandalized while ink spilled and a footprint was left. Maddox is free on 1090 bond. Sheriff Black awaits polygraph results not admissible in court.

Cow and Volkswagen Collision on US 190 near Branchville

Ted Thomas of Killeen drove a 1966 Volkswagen when it struck a cow on US 190 near Branchville about 8:05 p.m. April 18. He was treated for lacerations at Hearne hospital. damage to the car was around 800 dollars. Officer Milton Wright investigated.

Cameron City Council Interviews Police Applicants

City council members reviewed applications for the Cameron police chief at a called Friday evening meeting and interviewed applicants for the position in a separate Wednesday night session. Applications were also being received for an additional patrolman and a dispatcher for the department.

Rogers High School Homecoming Weekend Plans Beacons Parade

Hundreds of Rogers exes gather for bi annual homecoming with Friday band concert at 7 30 p.m. and Saturday parade featuring queen candidates Jane Lesikar Vicki Ray Gayle Kovar and Brenda Immon. The event includes a barbecue dinner program coronation prizes and a special History of Rogers by Eagle’s Eye staff.

Milam County Historical Association Elects Officers

The Milam County Historical Association formed at Cameron Public Library and elected Miss Mary Belle Batte as chairwoman Tom Underwood Rockdale as vice chairman Mrs Bob Bruder Gause as secretary treasurer and Ada Margaret Smith as reporter. The group aims to share Texas Milam history and may place a log cabin at Cameron City Park and mark the Old Nashville fort. Historic items shown included books Bibles guns and Spears. A horse drawn school bus from Branchville was pictured by H H Pruitt as the state’s first official bus. The next meeting is 3 p m May 7 at Rockdale State Bank.

Cameron Man In US 190 Accident Injuring 2 Drivers

A three vehicle crash on US 190 near Temple injures two pedestrians one in critical condition. The drivers involved are James Mason Chapman 53 of Temple Paulino Veracruz 28 of Rogers and William Foster Miller of Cameron. Chapman remains critical while Veracruz is listed satisfactory. The incident is under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrolman Milton Wright.

Committee Clears Drink Bill in 10-7 Vote

The House Revenue and Taxation Committee approved a liquor by the drink bill 10 to 7. Seven members voted, including Rep Milton J. Schiller of Cameron against the measure with local option features. Gov. Connally backs the proposal despite mixed committee support.

Magre Heads Literacy Council in Cameron and Milam County

kd Magre named chairman of the Milam County Literacy Council after leading the Magre Literacy Council in Magre Cameron. The Milam group met at Cameron Public Library and plans for a May teacher training session were proposed. Mrs Kahler named vice chairman and Mrs Magre secretary treasurer. Mildred Thornton named chairman of teacher recruitment. Baylor Literacy Council to aid.
