Milam County Broiler Contest Weekend in Cameron

Milam County 4 H and FFA members will show five top broilers Saturday in Cameron. About 85 growers enter with judging starting at 9 a m in the Mitchan Building near the Cameron Chamber of Commerce. Awards banquet at 7 30 p m at Methodist Fellowship Hall features John Bradley of Texas A M as judge and Ben Wormell as guest speaker. Posters list trophies and cash prizes for grand and reserve champions and 2nd through 10th in cockeral and pallet divisions. Tickets available at the Chamber office. exhibitors and parents may attend banquet.

Legion Posts to be Honored at Eleventh District Convention

Five American Legion posts will receive Citations for surpassing 1962 membership quotas at the Eleventh District Spring Convention in Cameron. John Zarosky announced the event with sessions at the National Guard Armory, a Saturday dance, and Sunday activities including Memorial Service and separate Legion Auxiliary meetings.

Smiley Burnette to headline Cameron Children's Day shows

Smiley Burnette visits Cameron for Children's Day with three performances at 1:30 4:30 and 7:30 p m. He will autograph items after each show and will match tickets for prizes from local merchants. If rain hits the event moves to Yee High School Gym and 49 merchants will participate in prize drawings Thursday through Saturday.

Propositions to appear on Democratic Primary ballot

Three propositions will appear on the Democratic Primary ballot May 5 alongside about 60 state and local candidates. Milam Democratic Chairman Max McClaren notes the proposals ask voters to decide on parimutuel betting, a constitutional amendment for parimutuel wagering, and an amendment abolishing the poll tax for Texas voting.

Slogan Contest Continues Here In Cameron

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce continues the Slogan Contest and will honor the winning writer with a proclamation setting aside a full day in Cameron. A plaque bearing the slogan and winner’s name will be awarded at the March 1963 chamber banquet, plus a $10 prize and recognition in radio and newspaper coverage.

Funeral Services Held For Frank Marak At St Monicas

Funeral services for Frank Marak were held at 10 a m from St Monicas Catholic Church with Rev John Geiser officiating. Burial followed in St Monicas Cemetery. Marak 86 lived in Milam County 10 years, a retired farmer, survived by his wife 2 sons 6 daughters 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Four Burglaries In Milam County Sentenced

A Milam District petit jury found Adolfo Flores Jr guilty of burglary and gave a three year suspended sentence. In two other burglary verdicts, Angue Vinson Jerry Reschke and Charle Brum were each found guilty in Ben Arnold and the Oak Club near Pettibone, receiving five year sentences. A separate case for Joe Mata is set for April 3. jurors listed include Monroe Fuchs and Vance Brock among others.

19th Prepares For Guerrilla Training

A portion of Texas 49th Armored Division plans guerrilla training for Exercise Iron Dragoon the largest field maneuver in the Fourth Army area this year. About 20 000 soldiers will participate May 1 15 with Forts Bliss Sill Hood and Polk providing umpires and controllers while 138 officers and 156 enlisted men assist.

Election Judges Named Absentees In Democratic Primary

Absentee voting figures show 18 counts in the Democratic Primary up to press time, with one Republican vote counted. Library Board Looks for New Funds and Committees

Cameron Library Board met Monday night to plan fundraising for operating and book funds. A three member committee led by George Bowman will pursue the fund program, with Oxheer Smith Judge W C Wallace and Dr Bowman named. A nomination committee includes Miss Mildred Thornton Mrs W O Triggs and Frank Luecke. The group announced a Delphian Club tea set for Tuesday May 1 at 3:30 pm in the freshly painted library to benefit Cameron Library. The board will reconvene May 7.

Minerva Post Office to Become Rural Station

Minerva Post Office will become Minerva Rural Station in Cameron county Saturday with no change in service or staff. Acting Postmaster Bernice Long mire will operate as contractor under Cameron jurisdiction. new boxes and remodeling planned while delivery, money orders, and other services continue.

Yee High principal resigns to join Southwest Texas Junior College

Gerald Underwood resigns as Yee High School principal to become Dean of Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde. The resignation takes effect at the end of the current school year. He expresses regret about leaving Cameron and thanks the community for friendships and support. Superintendent Charles Zeigler notes the administration’s concern at his departure.

Funeral services for Mrs Frank Sustek 72 were held Saturday at 3 pm from St Monicas Catholic Church with Rev John Geiser officiating Rosary was recited 730 pm Friday at Marek Burns Funeral Home Burial was in St Monicas Cemetery Mrs Sustek died at her home 1030 am Friday Born May 15 1889 in Czechoslovakia she lived in Cameron for 50 years She was a member of the KJTZ Lodge of Cameron Surviving are her husband Frank Sustek of Cameron three daughters Mrs Lawrence Vrazel Mrs Frank Vansa and Mrs Lewis Vansa all of Buckholts 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services Set For Mrs Fontaine

Funeral services for Mrs. W. J. Fontaine 85 who died Monday in Alexandria Virginia will be held Friday at 3 p m at the Little River Baptist Church. She will be buried in Little River Cemetery with viewing from 1 30 p m until the service. She was the widow of Dr. W. J. Fontaine longtime community physician at Jones Prairie. She had lived the past eight months with her daughter Mrs Bill Little in Alexandria. Surviving are two children Rodney Fontaine of Jones Prairie and Mrs Little.
