Milam Health Unit Recommends Precautions Against Measles

Milam County Health Unit urges parents to consult physicians on treatment and isolation, keep suspected cases at home for three to five days after fever ends, notify contacts for early treatment, watch for signs, and reduce crowded exposure. Mata Receives Five Year Suspended Sentence in Burglary Case

Joe A Mata also called Johnny Mata was charged with the August 16 1961 burglary of a Sharp grocery store. Milam Courthouse saw a five year suspended sentence imposed Monday and George Triggs owned the store. City Opposes National Guard 10 Percent Cut

Cameron City Council votes to draft a resolution opposing a federal plan to cut National Guard personnel by 10 percent and to send it to Texas Senators and Rep. Poage. The meeting also funds $1,440 for the Milam Health Unit, denies Santa Fe Railroad crossing closure, and discusses paving, curbing, and sewer requests. Additionally the arson reward is raised to 250 and four tires are purchased for the city grader.

29 Win Prizes In Poultry Show At Milam Banquet

Milam residents and families attended the annual poultry show banquet at the First Methodist Fellowship Hall. Dennis Jistel Buckholts won grand champion with his cockerels, and Larry Jungmann Buckholts took reserve grand champion in the Bullet division. Guest speaker Ben Wormell of Texas A and M and John Bradley praised growers.

Jess Thompson of Rockdale withdraws from the State Senator race in Bell Milam and McLennan counties due to his wife illness. Milam Guard Unit to Return Home Under Release Plan

Milam County troops in Company C of the 13th Tank Battalion are among the 49th division units slated to be released August 11 by the Defense Department. Sixty eight soldiers hail from Milam County and 35 from Cameron. No word yet from Fort Polk on exact times of release and travel home to Cameron.

A roundup of town events lists May Fellowship Day at 930 am Friday May 4 at First Methodist Church. The Tejas Scout Exposition is set for May 5 at the National Guard Armory. A future senior play titled May It will be held at Yee Auditorium and a men’s golf tournament is scheduled for May 20 at Cameron Country Club.

Mrs. Carrie L. Beale 67 Dies. Rites Held in Cameron

Mrs. Carrie L. Beale died at home Saturday morning after a life spent in Cameron. Born February 1, 1895 in Cuero she leaves a large family including husband John W. Beale and eight sons and four daughters. Funeral services were Monday at Battetown Baptist Church with Rev. Dean Oien officiating. burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. The First Baptist Church invites friends and pastor to attend services Sunday as they observe the tenth anniversary of Rev. Aubrey F. Russell as pastor. Russell arrived in May 1952 after six and a half years at Georgetown church. Under his leadership the church expanded property, built a new parsonage, and completed a colonial sanctuary, office, and educational space.

Cameron Public Schools teachers and administrators will be honored at the PTA meeting tonight at 7 30 p m in the Ben Milam Cafetorium. Incoming officers will be installed by Mrs Perry Holder and a life membership will be awarded to a citizen chosen by the PTA. Scout Exposition Net For Saturday

Tejas District sponsors a District Scout Exposition in the National Guard Armory from 6 30 to 9 p m on Saturday. Troops from Falls Milam Robertson counties and nearby towns will display scout crafts and activities with tickets at 50 cents and 30 percent of sales going to each unit. County Judge Don Humble chairs the event urging public and parent attendance.

Cameron Library Benefit Draws Support and Over $300 Donated

About 100 visitors attended the Delphian Club benefit tea at 112 E First St in Cameron and donations plus sustaining memberships exceeded 300 dollars. Lions and Rotary clubs each gave 100 dollars for reference books, with 15 new sustaining members joining. A dozen books were presented during the two hour event, the first public benefit at the new library location, which houses around 3 000 volumes.

Barbecue Helps Milton Schiller Promote District 45 Bid

About 300 people attended a barbecue at Rand Pavilion City Park last Wednesday April 23 for Milton Schiller candidate for State Representative of District 45. Emil Moerke Jack Ramsey and Wendell Dyer spoke in support while Cameron attorney A B Camp hosted. Schiller urged jobs and investment in Burleson Milam and Robertson counties noting population declines and low per capita income and pledged to Austin without lobby ties. He thanked his wife and his brother Jerry and business partner.

Voters in Milam County head to polls Saturday for Democratic and Republican primaries. About 5,500 voters expected across 38 precincts with 68 candidates for county state and federal offices. Absentee ballots numbered 43 received plus 21 mailed. returns due within 24 hours after polls close. Runoff set for June 2 if no candidate wins a majority.
