Yoe High clinched its tenth straight District 24 A Interscholastic League win since 1946 reactivation, totaling 303 points. Belton finished second with 147, followed by Taylor 132, Rosebud 147, Georgetown 62, and Rockdale 52. The team also led 142 points in literary events and 161 in athletics, with Cameron leading in track and field events at 161. Event winners included Cameron in debate and shorthand, Belton in girls debate and typing, and Rosebud in spelling and extempore. See back page for full results.

Cameron Knights of Columbus Initiation Held in Cameron
The Cameron Council of the Knights of Columbus held an initiation on Sunday April 15 at the K of C Hall. The day began with Mass at St Monica's Church followed by breakfast, then First Degree exemplification. Afternoon saw Second and Third Degrees and a Bar-B-Que supper for canditates members and guests with visiting dignitaries from Bryan Taylor and other cities.

Polio Vaccine Supply Rises In Milam County
Polio vaccinations are increasing in private clinics and Milam County Health Unit. By mid March providers faced vaccine shortages, but shipments have relieved the gap. Forty-two children completed the two injection series and sixteen received seven month boosters. A Welfare worker reported a tuberculosis case in a welfare family. Respiratory diseases remained high with measles 180, mumps 99, strep 60, chickenpox 33, influenza 25. four whooping cough, four gonorrhea, three syphilis, and one tuberculosis case were also noted.

Episcopal Texas Diocese Elects Suffragan Bishop
The Rev James Parker Clements rector of St Mark's Houston was elected suffragan bishop of the Texas diocese at a diocesan meeting in Austin. On the second ballot 63 clerical and 147 lay votes supported his election by acclamation after a motion. The outgoing bishop allowed a vote despite a constitutional concern.
