Puppet shows spark art interest at Cameron Rotary event

Mrs. L. W. Stroup guided 18 fifth graders to present three puppet shows at Cameron Rotary with stage, sound and backdrops. Cameron Lions plan a Festival of Art screening at Temple's Cultural Activities Center. Stroup teaches 249 students daily, channeling creativity into performance.

Arnold Chairs Buckholts School Board After Meeting

Doyle Arnold was elected president of the Buckholts School Board with A. W. Zajicek Jr. as vice president and W. E. Beckhusen as secretary. The board re-hired staff, approved senior class trip transportation, and allowed Hope Lutheran Church to use school facilities for a two week Bible school. One faculty resignation was accepted, according to Superintendent Leon L. Brady.

Cameron City OKs NW annexation and zoning plan

Cameron City Council approved the annexation of 485.36 acres to extend the northwest limits. The council also advanced a zoning ordinance for downtown renewal and voted to seek a grant from the Texas Health Department for planning studies. Mayor Perrin outlined contingency for engineering consultants if Walter Albritton does not join with planners.

Thieves Break Into Ada Henderson and Yoe High Schools

Cameron Police seek three suspects after Friday night break ins at Ada Henderson School Yoe High and Yee High gym. Entry points include a classroom window and an unlocked restroom door. About 17 to 18 dollars missing from Ada Henderson office plus change. gym and machines damaged with no equipment stolen.

Yee High Symphonic Band to Open Spring Concert

The Yee High Symphonic Band plans a spring concert at Cameron City Park on Sunday at 3 p.m. If rain interrupts, the show moves to the high school gym. Dir. Bob Carney says selections include pieces for the Region VIII contest on April 26. Next week Buckholts School hosts a Yee Band concert and May 1 features Castleberry High School Band from Fort Worth.

Waco Man Struck While Pushing Stalled Car

Moses A. Resendez 23 was hit by a pickup while helping push a stalled vehicle to Brad’s Service Station in Waco. He suffered a broken leg and was hospitalized at Scott and White in Temple in satisfactory condition. driver Ina Foy Klepper 48 of Rockdale was charged with driving while intoxicated. Suspect Wanted by New Mexico Police Nabbed in Cameron

A man wanted by New Mexico officers for armed robbery was captured in Cameron at 12 30 Wednesday morning by City Patrolmen Truman White and Richard Saunders. Lewis Peterson, visiting a friend, was picked up at Vine and Fourth Streets and jailed pending transfer to New Mexico authorities.

Cameron School Board reorganizes with new members and hires

The Cameron School Board held a regular meeting Thursday night reorganizing with two newly elected trustees Hilliard Thomas and Fred Will Hornung. Coleman Duncan was reelected president with Thomas as vice president and Dr John Martin as secretary. Hugo Aigner was named to the Cisbo Board of Equalization for a three year term alongside William Watkins John A Smith Mr and Mrs Maxie Morgan and Thomas Dusek were hired as new teachers for 1969 70. The Morgans and Dusek will join junior high science language arts Yee High School and Ben Milam cafetorium upgrades were approved with new chairs and a cyclorama. Tennis court work received a two year guarantee.

Cameron Schools Sweep Literary Meet Honors

Cameron schools topped the District 1g AA UIL literary contest at Blinn College. Yoe High took four firsts and 102 points to win the meet, Georgetown placed second, Round Rock third, with other schools Caldwell and Igin scoring. Winners included Monty Humble and Danny Matula in boys debate, Becky Griffin in poetry, John Ben Sutter in prose, Sharon Cook in ready writing, and Ada Henderson leading Cameron’s elementary team.

Increase in DWI arrests alarms Cameron officials

City and county officers report a weekend surge in drunken driving with seven DWI arrests by Cameron Police and about 12 by the County Sheriff. Sheriff Black notes more DWI charges this year and County Attorney Henderson says 32 cases disposed since January 1 with six pending, twice or three times higher than in prior years.
