Capt Rudolph Michalka announced federal recognition would follow, with swearing-in tentatively set for next week. A full unit strength remains 4 officers and 75 enlisted, vacancy notices include a 40 hour a week caretaker supply sergeant paying about 2190 yearly plus Guardsman pay. Buckholts Native Frank Zawadzke Dies in Temple
Frank C. Zawadzke of Buckholts died in a Temple hospital Monday at 10 30 am. Born in McKeesport Pennsylvania October 18 1892 he moved to Brenham Texas as a child later relocating to Buckholts. He married Faye Alexander in 1923 and survived by a daughter a son two grandchildren his father and several siblings. Funeral held Wednesday at Skinner funeral home Rogers with burial at Rogers cemetery. Edwin Hardy post American Legion Cameron assisted at the cemetery.

Phone Company Plays Major Role in Riding With Emergency Calls
Emergency lines in Texas City and surrounding areas handled by the Telephone Company on Wednesday as staff returned to duty. C L Carson reports all switchboards at Texas City and Galveston were staffed while 34 workers aided Houston operations to meet the high volume of calls. Damage to the plant was repaired and circuits operated at capacity.

Fort Worth area officials from the Community Public Service Company traveled to Cameron at 1 30 a m to obtain testing chemicals for Texas City. L W Smith the local manager said three officials including Richard Hester were en route to the stricken city to assist with water and power utilities. Company planes ferried linemen on Wednesday to aid Texas City crews. Only one young lady employee was reported injured.

Night blast heard in Cameron from Texas City explosion
Cameron residents reported a loud explosion from Texas City at about 1 20 am causing windows to shake and homes to rock. E R Cornelius estimated sound traveled 1100 feet per second reaching Cameron in roughly 13 minutes with a second blast occurring around the same hour.

Milano man Dick Baggett jailed for drunken driving crash
Dick Baggett of Milano pleaded guilty in County Court to driving while intoxicated and to assault with a car in a 1946 crash on Highway 36 near the city. He received one year in jail in each case, to be served concurrently, as authorities tighten drunk driving penalties.
