Seely Storey Advances in U S Army Air Corps
Corp Seely M Storey, a Cameron native and Yee High School graduate, has rapidly progressed in the Air Corps now stationed at Elmendorf Field Alaska. Born here son of Mr and Mrs Bill Storey he enlisted December 1 1939 at Randolph Field and has served at Randolph March Field and McChord Field before transfer to Alaska. He recently earned corporal and seeks letters from hometown friends. Cameron city sends greetings to Storey and school contracts have been renewed.

Leland Green became Mayor of the City of Cameron on Tuesday night April 21 to succeed Chas C Smith. He submitted a list of committee appointments not available to The Herald. Alderman McDermott remains Finance Committee Chairman and August Horstmann continues Street Committee Chairman. Monta Thomas resigned as Fire Chief and will be replaced. Green was elected after a February Primary. Smith retires after 12 years in office.

Navy Relief Work Makes Rapid County Progress

Coach Wood Undergoes Appendectomy After Illness
Coach Carroll Wood was rushed to Cameron Hospital Friday after an attack of appendicitis and underwent a local anesthetic operation by Dr. W. R. Newton and Dr. W. M. Avent. The appendix was in bad shape. the doctors reported the operation was successful and he was only slightly ill, able to converse with the surgeons.

M JaneWay Dies In Home Here Tuesday
M Janeway 57 widely known citizen here died at his Cameron home Tuesday morning after seven months of declining health from a stroke. He was a barber, deacon at New Providence Primitive Baptist Church, and survived by his widow Mrs M Janeway and a daughter Mrs Warene Gray of Raleigh. Funeral Wednesday at 3 p.m. from First Baptist Church with Elder W R Blackmon officiating. burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pioneer Mary Looney Dies at 84 in Milam County
Mrs. Mary Easterwood Looney 84 a Mississippi native and longtime Milam County resident died in Marlin on March 26 1942. Born December 14 1853 in Jackson Mississippi she moved to Texas as a child and lived in Bell County before her family settled near Port Sullivan on the Brazos River later fading as a town.

Pvt Alfred A Simecek of Cameron serves in an anti aircraft battery on Corregidor Island at the mouth of Manila Bay. He enlisted February 11 1941 and has been in the Philippines for a long time. His brother Charles Jr is in Hawaii when the December 7 1941 attack occurred.

Boots Made from Deer Hide Display at Cameron Shop
A pair of buckskin boots, among the most beautiful seen locally, are displayed at Cameron Ice Cream Company. They were made for Marvin Ethridge from a deer hide killed in Webb County, tanned in Cameron, and crafted at J. R. Modre Boot Shop by Jack Moore, who is completing work while Modre serves in the Marines. The boots feature green and red decoration with butterfly wings and flowers on a yellow tan hide.

Mammoth Tooth Found On Matocha Farm Near Little River
Lloyd Buff of the Texas Construction Material Company unearthed a mammoth tooth from 14 feet of gravel at the Matocha farm near Little River. The tooth, from a young animal, is broken in half with enamel plates intact. Similar fossil teeth have been found in the area. The tooth was donated to the Midget publishers.
