Rockdale boosters in town Friday for Milam County Fair

A Rockdale booster party visited Cameron last Friday to promote the Milam County Fair to be held July 8 9 and 10. They plan a Cameron section in the fair catalog with a full page write up and a new courthouse photo funded by the fair association. The group included H C Meyer mayor of Rockdale and fair president and sought cooperation from Cameron merchants and the Young Men's Business League.

Temple Man Proposes New Cotton Gin Invention

Temple Texas April 7 John Woolridge formerly of Temple has patented a two tier saw system for cotton gins to separate lint from seed. The design places two sets of saws one inch apart to strip lint while a lower, five eighths inch spaced set cleans the seed. Trials are planned in Oenaville this week as Woolridge pursues a radical improvement to Eli Whitney era methods.

Senator H B Terrell Seeks Comptroller Nomination

State Senator H B Terrell of the Eleventh District has applied to Democratic committee chair Walter Collins to place his name on the July primary ticket for Comptroller. Terrell, long a public servant and newspaper editor in West Texas, cites experience in the House and Senate and pledges strict enforcement of laws if elected.

Rockdale Oil Well Nearing Gusher Hope

Rockdale drill progresses through shale and gumbo while oil and gas traces appear. A Tuesday pipe twist due to tough gumbo delayed work one day. Stockholders rejected a foreign takeover, pledging to fund the pursuit with about 9000 dollars spent so far. experts say oil prospects are strong and Rockdale could become an oil center.

Cornelia McGuire stayed with her parents over the weekend. The Newton and McKinney families shopped in Cameron. Emma Smith stayed with Eulalia Thweatt. W B Smith and daughter Sallie visited Cameron. Yager and Moseley went to Cameron for a Friday night show. C E Newton runs for county superintendent.

Convict Captured Near Rogers After Escape From Guard

A guard was overpowered last week during a four man escape near Cameron Milam County. The convict trio included two groes a Mexican and a white man. The Rogers trio Constable Logan Parks City Marshal Bonds captured the man near Rogers around 9 pm turning him over to Milam officials. Also reported a farmer Newt Moore killed a large badger weighing about thirty five pounds found in his field proving extinct in the area and valued for its hide.

Weekend Notes From Mayfield and Nearby

Invited guests Mrs Atkinson and children enjoyed the weekend at home while Dr Hubert and family took a flying trip to Cameron. A Mayfield home recently gained painting, and Rufus Smith and Scott McGuire have been ill. Mr Van Tyson bought the Bell residence and will move to Mayfield, with Brother Bailey delivering an excellent Resurrection.
