Milam Students Enter League Meet in Waco

Milam County students will travel to Waco this Saturday to compete in the University Interscholastic League district meet against ten Central Texas units. Tennis begins Friday at 9:00. other contests start Saturday at 9:30. Lit events reporters convene at Baylor main auditorium. athletes at Carroll Field. District 14 contestants include diverse debaters, speakers, and runners from Cameron, Rockdale, Thorndale, and nearby towns, with winners advancing to May State University events.

Mayor Chambers Undergoes Operation in Temple Hospital

Mayor W. W. Chambers, troubled by throat issues, was operated on at Scott and White Hospital in Temple on Wednesday. He rests today as well as expected, with Judge and Mrs. Graham Gillis and Ralph Chambers, along with Dr. Saindler and his wife of Waco, at his side.

Cameron Students Shine at Belton Latin Tournament

Cameron high school sent Roy Baskin Giles Arriett Shentym Hefley Louise Owen Bob Hensley and Viola Sustek to the Belton Lat in Tournament. Miss Sustek won first in second year Latin with The World's Debt to Caesar and earned a pin. Bob Hensley won freshman essay, Roy Baskin placed third in the 384-contest freshman Latin exam. About fifty schools attended. only Waco Cleburne Temple and Cameron took first place. A reception at Hardy Hall followed, hosted by Baylor College Classical Club.

Death of Father Simon Spinneweber In Cameron Region

The death of Father Simon Spinneweber aged 71 after a long illness is reported. He formerly led St. Monica's in Cameron and served many parishes, later in Houston as chaplain at St. Anthony's Home. His funeral was in Sacred Heart Church Houston with Bishop E Byrne presiding.

Cameron Organizes Strong Amateur Baseball Team

Sunny Pope reports Cameron forms a new season squad led by Vaughn Jenness, drawing players from last year’s Comets and local teams. The Fire Department gave fifty dollars for bats and balls as the nucleus, with Sharpe and Cameron aiming for the Temple Telegram race. The season opens April 19 against Waco Gassery, after an April 12 Hearne opener.

Cameron Yoemen Set For Bi County Title Clash With Holland

Cameron faces Holland Friday at 3 30 p m in the District 14 Bi County Championship at Lawless Green Field. The Yoemen rely on Bill Worcester on the mound to drive a fast, furious attack as they seek a state bid after beating Temple Killeen and Texas offerings. Milam County farmers from H L Fuchs Ed Simms and others attended the district meeting at Coolidge traveling 80 miles via Waco in Fuchs big Pontiac and Simms roadster. The party enjoyed bluebonnets and prairie scene while discussing cotton and stock farming with Navarro Limestone Freestone Robertson and Leon delegates present.

W. J. Linke to Display Indian Relics Collection Here

Sharpe resident W. J. Linke will place his Indian relics collection in The Herald building museum. The collection spans about 1000 specimens including a blue flint battle axe seven and a half inches base ten and a half inches long and another blade eleven inches long. A bead string from a grave is also included.

Budget Report From Cameron Commercial Club Budget Committee

The Cameron Commercial Club budget committee chaired by Giles L Arriett J C Young George Gott and J C Tucker prepared a tentative 3700 budget including Good Roads Christmas Lighting Poultry Show Short Course and United Charities totals and a 2653 pledge from Citizens National Bank Community Natural Gas Co Cameron State Bank and First National Bank among others to fund the budget with additional contributions and advance payments noted.

Saunders Promotes Boy Scout Work in Cameron Efforts

Howard F. Saunders, former Cameron teacher and now assistant Scout Executive of Heart O'Texas Council, visits Cameron to boost fundraising for Boy Scout activities. A new troop is planned to support a permanent camp with local volunteers including Roy Law and F. E. Jackson.

Mrs Jennie T Smith Buried in Cameron Texas

The lifelong Cameron resident Mrs Jennie T Smith died Sunday April 12 at 12 45 am at her home after a long illness. Born October 3 1849 in Georgia she came to Texas in 1870 and to Cameron in 1870s. She is survived by son Robert Smith and daughters Myrtle McCine Ivy Thompson of Dallas a grandson Max Reynolds and a stepson Warren Smith. Funeral services were held Monday at 10 am at the home with Rev C A Lehmberg and burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers included Dr John Denson Oxsheer Smith Dan Tyson N Green Oscar Kid and W A Bonds. Out of town relatives attended and the Herald expresses sympathy.
