Cameron Volunteer Firemen, a nonpaid group, sponsor a baseball team to honor civic duty. They urge Cameron citizens to attend games, noting past low turnout at a 3 to 2 win over Waco Gassers and highlighting the value of volunteer service in keeping fire insurance rates down.
Wm. R. Rogers left Cameron with Giles L. Arriett and Mrs. Rogers and Mrs. Chas. McDermott for Temple for treatment of an injury to his right eye sustained Wednesday morning when a wire strand struck the eye. Initial concern about loss of sight gave way to a diagnosis that the pupil was not touched, though physicians warned of possible permanent injury.
Friends in Cameron report Mayor W. W. Chambers shows improvement after more than a week in a Temple hospital following throat cancer surgery. An additional operation will be performed within days to remove remaining infection as doctors pursue recovery. The condition remains serious but hopeful signs are noted.
New Haven Conn April 20 R A MacKenzie representative of the Supreme Council Knights of Columbus will visit three Texas councils during the week of April 20 arriving in Austin April 21 to meet St Edward s Council He will visit Windthorst Council Taylor April 22 23 and Cameron Council Cameron He will discuss council business administration and report on the Supreme Council activities including the boy work program The order sponsors a graduate boy guidance course at Notre Dame University and conducts many boy work institutes The membership as of June 30 was 18 611 in 2555 councils with 288 304 040 in insurance and 23 370 629 in liabilities The assets to liabilities ratio was 130 44 percent with a 30 44 percent safety margin.
Christian leaders and workers, about twenty strong, from District 15 with some 200 churches, met at First Baptist Church. Dr. J. L. Wharton of Bryan led a budget roundup plan to send funds to Dallas by May 3, with three churches showing paramount support and a telegram sent to Dr. W. R. White pledging loyalty to the state work.
The County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations holds its quarterly meeting in District Court Room on Saturday May 2 at 7 o'clock. Dr. W. R. Newton will discuss County health conditions. A large attendance of interested citizens is urged.

Cameron Fire Department funds start the season by sponsoring the team now named the Cameron Firemen replacing the Cameron Comets. Manager Vaughn Jenness leads a roster including Archie Peel William Worcester Ray Walston Ralph Wiley Prothro Deer Douglas Williams Kenneth Keith Henderson Walker and others.
The Cameron Firemen host Sharp at Lawless Green Field on Saturday at 3 00 pm to begin the Tele gram cup race. Sunday April 26 at 3 00 pm Rosebud Roses visit the same field for another game. A strong rivalry excites fans as the Firemen appear sharper and ready to fight from start to finish.
Bouquets of flowers will be placed on graves of Confederates in Oak Hill Cemetery and the Old Cemetery at 2:00 p m on Sunday afternoon April 26. All are invited to bring bouquets to the Paden lot for exercises. Come Daughters of Confederacy.
Mr and Mrs LaBertice Robinson are building a small bungalow on East 11 Street Cameon with a concrete foundation and fire proof roofing. They plan to complete by the end of May and expect it to be an ornament to that part of the city.
Citizens of Jones Prairie host an oil development jubilee Thursday night with W G Gillis and Dr Ferguson as speakers. Free lunches and coffee are offered. Land owners attending as guests are asked to come prepared to lease their lands.
The Episcopal Church announces a service next Sunday at 7 45 p m and Sunday School at 9 45 a m.
Friends announce Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Gunn are relocating to Palestine where Mr. Gunn will serve as Magnolia Petroleum Company agent. The move is a promotion and Cameron will lose a valued citizen. Mrs. Gunn is active socially and civically. the couple depart Saturday for their new home.
On Sunday April 26 1931 the Daughters of the Confederacy urge relatives and friends to tidy graves and bring flowers to the Paden lot in Oak Hill Cemetery for the annual two o clock decoration ceremony.
The St Anthony's School pupils presented a program on Tuesday night April 21 at the R of Hall in Cameron. The event featured songs drills and plays with an entertainment by the Pioneer Band led by J. T. Parma at 7 30 p m.
Cameron won with Frank Newton fourth in Senior Declamation and John Martin second in Junior Declamation. Frances Hobson Dorothy Lesovsky and Estelle Lampkin tied for second in typing among nine teams entered.
The Methodist community hosts a Church Night in the church basement on Friday April 24 at eight o clock for two hours of mingling. Committees decorate plan an informal program and serve refreshments inviting all Methodists and their spouses from other denominations to attend without a collection.

Mrs. Sam Hefley arrived from Austin where her husband Hon. Sam Hefley attends the Legislature. He is a member of the legislative body and Mrs Hefley accompanied him on the trip.

Dipping at Cross Roads Buckholts Oyte Thorndale Conley Carlisle Hardcastle Two Mile and Jackson on April 27. Fowler and Sam Mewhinney on April 28. Jones Prairie Ruzicka Jacobs Nile Sandow Sides Hurt Jap Smith and Davilla on April 29.
Representatives of all young people organizations in the Marlin District are called to a District Set Up Meeting in Cameron Texas on Sunday afternoon May 8 1931. Plans to reorganize church youth education follow a General Conference decision in Dallas 1930. Program includes devotional 1 30 pm conference 1 45 pm message 2 30 pm and address 3 pm with musical numbers readings and more.
In a six inning game at Katy Park Tuesday, Waco High defeated Yoe High 4 to 3, eliminating Yoe High from the cup race. Worcester pitched, Waco had ten hits led by Baker Cobb H Riess Bolger Meyer Tex Mille and Williams. Texas Mille doubled and Worcester singled for early Waco scoring.
The Cameron Colored High School Judging Team won the state championship for the fourth time at Prairie View College last week. Led by J L Martin Billy Burks Elwood Kelly and Willie Woods the team scored 224. Individual honors went to J L Martin with 894 points earning $10 gold. Elwood Kelly second in potato judging with $2. a large champion ship banner was awarded to the school along with a banner in egg judging. The team coaches received a briefcase. They will compete in an inter state contest in October in Oklahoma City. Other Milam county winners earned gold and silver medals in track and field events and academic contests.
Next Sunday at 11 o clock a Sunday school program titled Recognition will be led by Roy Baskin with music and talks by school members. Billie Gaither plays organ. a free will offering supports Texas Conference Sunday school work. The sermon at 7 45 pm is The Banishment of Fear. all are invited to attend.
