One thousand downy chicks will be distributed to 20 Milam County 4 H and FFA boys by 20 merchants who signed as sponsors for the Chambers of Commerce Broiler Contest. Final sponsor registration was April 9 with a second registration cutoff April 16 for contestants.

Rosebud Cameron Dominate District 8 Meet Saturday

Rosebud and Cameron swept District 8 events with top team titles in boys track and field and girls track. Cameron led in the literary meet with 97 points while Caldwell placed second. several Cameron students won declaimers spelling and arithmetic events.

Rockdale Alcoa Plant to be Dedicated April 24

Aluminum Company of America's Rockdale Works will dedicate Texas new aluminum smelting plant with a 30 minute ceremony at 10 am April 24. Governor Allan Shiver, I W Wilson, W W Lynch, Texas Power & Light, and J D Harper will participate. Open house tours follow April 25 for employees families and the public to see carbon plant pots and 700 pound pigs of molten aluminum. Visitors are advised to wear sturdy shoes and not bring watches or cameras due to current.

Castor Beans Sale Opens At Local PMA Office

Castor beans for 14 cents per pound are now available at the local Production Marketing Association office. Officials say a new hybrid bean lets farmers leave beans on the stalk until frost and use a stripper, boosting yield and easing harvest with no acreage limit for individual farmers.

John Kostiha Dies At Home In Marak Community

John Kostiha 86 of the Marak Community died at 3 p m Thursday April 8 at his home. Funeral set for 9 a m Saturday April 10 at St Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church Marak with Rev Leonard Kazyansky officiating. Burial in Marak Catholic Cemetery. Survived by widow Mary Kostiha of Marak a son Joe R Kostiha of Cameron a daughter Mrs Mary Pasteka of Rosenburg 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons. He came from Czechoslovakia about fifty years ago and lived in Milam County since.

Cameron Receives 0.13 Inches Rain Over Two Days

Weepy skies draped Cameron last Thursday and Friday as .11 and .02 inches of rain fell. The moisture helps local farming areas and raises the 1954 total rainfall to 2.80 inches. Summer heat accompanied the weather last week.

Funeral services for H. R. Miller, 84, grandfather of J. W. Miller of Cameron, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, in Olton at the First Methodist Church. Burial followed at Olton Cemetery. Explorer Scouts to Attend Milam Camping Trip

Cameron Explorer Scouts from Post 55 and 83 invited for overnight camping at Alcoa Lake on April 24 and 25. Reverend John Solomon, sponsor of troop 83, announced the plan. Local Milam district troops are invited and will meet at the Presbyterian Church Tuesday night to finalize arrangements.

Cameron FFA poultry team took third in the area Poultry judging contest at Texas A M Friday. Members were Jimmy Markham Luther Burnett and Billy Jistel. Thirty five area schools competed as seven events covered dressed and live market birds cull production birds and eggs supervised by L R Thompson sponsor.
