Cameron to host Smiley Burnette for Children’s Day events

Cameron officials announce Smiley Burnette, ex sidekick to Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, will visit April 26 with personal appearances in Cameron and three shows at Milam Courthouse lawn. He heads the Children’s Day feature backed by the Cameron Chamber of Commerce, the first celebrity since John Connally’s March visit.

Services Wednesday For John H Delony

Funeral services for John H Delony 30 were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev A F Russell officiating. Delony died April 2 in Madrid Spain at Torrejon Air Base where he served as a U S Air Force pilot. He was born October 1 1931 in Ruston Louisiana. He is survived by his wife La Verne two sons Jim and Davis two daughters Melissa and Laura his mother Alline Delony of Ruston Louisiana two brothers Henry Delony of Shreveport and Lt Billie Delony of Greenville plus his in laws Mr and Mrs Allen Dodson. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites at Bergstron Air Force Base.

Walter White the Milam County tax assessor collector estimates 12 000 motor vehicles licensed before the April 1 deadline and notes 5264 license plates were sold at Cameron courthouse with another 6000 to 7000 likely licensed in Hockvale and Thorndale.

Burke and Smith Elected to Cameron School Board

Charlie Burke and Niley J. Smith were elected to the Cameron School Board Saturday. Burke received 99 votes and Smith 98 votes in an unopposed race with 105 total votes cast. two write-ins went to Lawrence McLer. Election judge was B. J. Matocha.
