Distribution of school funds totaling 5,020,250 is mailed as part of the state semi annual allotment. The total for the year reaches 10,035,250 with Kroll county receiving 22,200 toward property tax relief. Next year teachers will be paid 700 each under the act.
Roy Gardner wins the state rifle championship at Frankfort as his son Lieut. Gardner captures the state captainship and his company earns a place in the state rifle contest after twelve years.
A selection of 4 000 cadets compete for cm tc scholarships at August camps with aid from the Mill Training Camp Association. Notable colleges include Hanover, Windsay, Franklin, and the University of Kentucky. Candidates must show strong moral character and academic merit to win among qualified applicants. Ida Arnot of Indianapolis and her family are mentioned in connection with the event.
Communities are urged to organize NYA work for 18 to 25 year olds to keep youth occupied and build future citizenship. Plans include minor construction and public service tasks such as clerical work, library support, and research. Effective programs depend on local effort and visible encouragement for the workers.
Sim Taylor and family attended a family reunion at Frackfort on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Loughan of Chicago and D. R. Warren of Harvey Illinois, with Miss Virginia Caster, were Sunday guests of Mrs. N. L. Warren.
Rey Stanger, once a patient at Methodist Hospital for over two months, was discharged Monday. He traveled home with a steady walk and plans to rest while gradually regaining full health.
Ivan McCurdy of Idaville Spurgeon Todd of Camden and Marshall E Wagoner of Delphi attend the Indiana State Police School held this month at Indiana University.
Mrs. Bessie Hallan, 35, wife of Harold Hallam, died at Cass County hospital after a week of illness and a midnight operation. She leaves a husband, a daughter Carolyn 13, and son Harold Jr 16, plus parents J. M. Harrison, two sisters, and five brothers. Funeral at MFE church Friday at 3 PM, Rev. W. C. Rogers officiating. burial in Camden Cemetery. Also born Tuesday to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Parrott a son Keith Albert weighing seven pounds.
Miss Virginia McCellan, niece of Grant Sweet, won second prize in a Greensburg beauty contest run by the P T A last Friday. She placed second among forty entrants from as many towns, while Miss McClellan had previously won.
Announcement of the approaching marriage between Rev. Clarence Sink son of Rev and Mrs Robert Sink of Walnut Stamp community and Miss Margaret Polster of Morrill Kansas. The ceremony will be held July 28 at the Church of the Brethren in Morrill with Rev Sik officiating. They will establish their home in Camden.
The Democratic Womens Club at Delphi Country Club hosted a large reception for Mrs. Clifford Townsend last Thursday attended by about three hundred people. The program and decorations were executed as planned, and the event was described as a lovely affair.
The If ome Economics Club gathered at Mrs. Ruth Edging’s home for a meeting. The 4-H Club presented a readings and music program with about thirty people in attendance. Hostesses included Esther Hedderich, Mary Bryan, Opal Wingard, Vera Fisher, and Edith Ovler.
Townsend rose from a Blackford County farm to lead Indiana as governor after a career as educator and public official. He directed county schools, served in the Red Cross and Four Minute Men program, led the Farm Bureau in education and organization, and presided as lieutenant governor before winning the 1936 election by a large majority.
Carroll county commissioners approve secession of Burrows precinct from Rock Creek and name Gardner Martin as Liberty township trustee. Liberty voters plan July 20 celebrations while Burrows school stays open with 3 teachers and levy reductions expected. former Rockfield ties fade as new taxes and borders take effect.
The Baptist Sunday School will hold its annual picnic at Paden park on Friday July 23. All attendees meet at the church by 11:00 A.M with cars available to transport everyone. A basket dinner at noon will be followed by games swimming and other sports.
County 4 H club leaders meet at the county agent office on Friday night July 16. County judging set for Flora on August 11. A demonstration team may include one or more girls over 15 in senior division. The division winner may enter the district contest at Lafayette in November.
Mrs Charles Rice, who had been under observation for several days at St Vincent hospital in Indianapolis, submitted to a goitre operation Friday.
