The Flight Is Quite Successful at Fort Myer
Orville Wright made a successful flight in the Wright aeroplane at Fort Myer Virginia lasting 5 minutes 30 seconds. The machine reached about forty miles per hour and circled the parade grounds six times covering roughly three and a half miles. A thousand spectators waited for wind improvements before the ascent. Collision sinks Cowle after fog bound voyage on Lake Superior
Three minutes after colliding with the Isaac M. Scott near Whitefish Point, the Cowle with 8000 tons iron ore sank in fifty fathoms. Only three men, including Captain Rogers, survive aboard the Scott and the Good Year. The Scott, on its maiden voyage, returned to Sault Ste Marie badly damaged.

A severe wind and rain storm struck Cambridge and Guernsey County Monday evening causing extensive damage. Byesville saw the strongest impact with a shed collapse at Byesville Planing Mill Co and damage to a new foundry frame. A new house under construction was leveled. Family narrowly escapes in early morning Eyesville fire
A fire on Anderson Street in Eyesville destroyed most of a five room cottage and caused over 1000 dollars in losses. Jake Baxter and his family, awakened by Dora Proctor, barely escaped as the blaze likely started from a gas light in the front room near the railroad. The engine saved part of the structure. only a sewing machine was recovered intact. The home carried about 400 dollars in insurance.
