T J Raynor alias Fred Carson famed for numerous house robberies in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh was captured at the post office while seeking a letter. He fled Allegheny City with Maud Spratt a seventeen year old girl who says he induced her to run away with him promising marriage. Trunks and jewelry believed to be robbery proceeds found at their boarding house. Raynor to be sent to Cincinnati where indicted with detainers for abducting the girl.
Reports from GosuEn Indiana recount Blaine day thefts where farmers lost money and watches. Thieves shipped plunder to Indianapolis by express. a Goshen package traced to a thief was opened by United States Express. Detectives connected the haul to confederates through the opened parcel.
A Saturday evening blaze gutted the top floor at 107 Fifth Avenue housing J Kolb Co. furriers. The destroyed rooms long served as the Arbeiter Zeitung offices where Spies Schwab and others penned revolutionary articles. The May 1886 Haymarket figures were connected to the space.
