The German ship Elizabeth, sailing from Hamburg to Baltimore, foundered fourteen miles south of Cape Henry on the Virginia coast on the 8th. Fifteen sailors were rescued by the Government Life Saving Crew but a capsized return voyage led to six drownings. All aboard were lost.
