Rainstorm Bursts Over County Damages Bridges and Dams
Farmers rejoiced after a five week drought followed by warm sun as Sunday rain and light hail swept the county. Sheets of rain lasted hours causing structural damage to several dams and bridges and resulting in substantial repair costs to both the county and residents.
Welfare roll cuts set for all Georgia counties
Braswell Deen director of the State Welfare department ordered county welfare boards to reduce local social security beneficiaries from 50 to 1100. The blanket order also announced payments for old age pensions dependent children and needy blind.

Peed Dies in Montezuma. Taylor County Native, 70
James KR Peed, 70, Macon County citizen and son of the late App Peed and Lou Mc Nair Peed, died at his Montezuma home after 85 years there. He was a lifelong Methodist, with a large family including eight sons and several daughters. Funeral services were conducted at his Montezuma residence, with Rev. J. W. Hitch officiating. pallbearers included his sons and local dignitaries.

Taylor county poultrymen won many honors at the Seventh Annual Baby Chick and Egg Show in Columbus. A B Guinn of Peach Valley Egg Farm received a trophy for White Leghorns with top overall chick scores. Entry price reached 8 50 each for 25 chicks. Mrs J R Massey placed fourth in the egg division with 95 5. W A Lundy led eggs with 97. Taylor county led in entries among 11 states, earning multiple prize sums and Jazz feed awards for top finishers.

Mr and Mrs J M Winston of Cincinnati Ohio were injured when their Oldsmobile sedan overturned several times about 5 30 Saturday afternoon one and a half miles north of Butler at Beaver Creek hill on highway three They were taken to Montgomery hospital for treatment Mrs Winston suffered a fractured right hip and body cuts Mr Winston had facial and body cuts and bruises Both expected to be discharged in a few days to return home The car was badly damaged

Bruce Captured Near Ellaville by Sheriff Saturday
Ray Bruce identified as public enemy No 1 was captured near Ellaville last Saturday by Sheriff Carl Rigsby with state police aid. He had visited Reynolds on Friday, inspecting posters and conversing with locals before authorities closed in Saturday afternoon. Bruce rode with two pistols on him. a car bore bullet damaged windows and a Missouri license. Police also recovered weaponry and a machine gun believed left behind at a nearby farm.

He was a Taylor county farmer and Antioch Baptist member. Funeral at Antioch church Tuesday with Rev M T Gaultney officiating and interment in Antioch cemetery. Survived by wife Doria by Adams ten children two sisters four brothers and local funeral home handling arrangements.
